Article by Ethan Kalvin

Most of the common diseases tied to childhood are more of an inconvenience than any thing else for your child and have a common duration of a few days before every thing returns to normal, such as small pox and measles. Rest and increased fluid intake is generally the prescription to help endure the time frame. It is actually more dangerous if the child doesn’t experience these common childhood diseases or get a pre adult vaccination for these before they become adults. Adults who contract childhood disease are at higher risks of complications and sometimes death.

One particularly troubling illness is the chickenpox. A relatively mild disease that occurs in children it is caused by the herpes zoster virus and usually results in a mild fever and skin rash of pussy, itchy bumps. The illness is usually gone in under a week and leaves just a few little pox marks when all is said and done.

For women, especially pregnant women, chickenpox can be more destructive and can be responsible for serious illness to her unborn child if the illness is contract during pregnancy and not during childhood. This occurrence is rare, but it does happen. To help remedy the chances of this happening, a chicken pox vaccine has been developed for women who never had the illness and want to ensure they have immunity, just in case they become pregnant. It is actually more dangerous if the child doesn’t experience these common childhood diseases or get a pre adult vaccination for these before they become adults.

Immunity in the case of herpes zoster really only means so much because this strain of the herpes virus that causes chicken pox also causes an adult illness known as shingles. Shingles is a rash that usually stems from stress and is blotchy, blistery, itchy, and extremely painful. Depending on the case some have mild symptoms a few bumps grouped together and others have more severe cases that can cause some debilitating pain and problems.

Most childhood illnesses do little harm and are more inconveniences than illnesses for children. Chicken pox which is considered by most professionals is a relatively mild childhood disease, but for adults, can cause some real serious problems. The real truth of chicken pox is that many believe that if they survived the childhood chicken pox they no longer have to worry about the itchy herpes zoster rash, but it can easily return in the form of shingles in the adult years and can lay dormant for years.
