Shingles or Herpes Zoster is a viral disease leaves blisters and inflaming on skin. We can call the problem as Postherpetic Neuralgia and the pain is called Shingles pain. It is a contagious disease and can hit those easily who have infected with chickenpox in younger age. The virus would stay in a latent state after infecting nerves at the dorsal root ganglia. In people who get chickenpox in younger age the virus goes to dormant stage from many months to years and can get activated with no clear cut reason. Stats show that in 50% of the Shingles patients are those who had chickenpox in younger age. The chances of getting this disease increase after the age of fifty. Although Shingles hits mostly in old age but it is seen in youngers as well. Being a contagious disease it can spread to wide area and hit to healthy people as well. This problem is largely an ailment of the elderly. The pain can go unbearable for Shingles patients who are also chronic to Hypesthesia or Hyperesthesia.
