Shingles Contagious…………?
They say shingles is contagious to people who have not had the Chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine. If someone was diagnosed with shingles…how long are they contagious and this person id taking prescription medication for it.

admin answers:
You are contagious. I believe its in the beginning of the outbreak, which in this case is the pain. I never had chicken pox. When my father got shingles, I was pregnant and two weeks later got chicken pox. I lost the baby and was told that when people have the existing pain of shingles to stay clear. And even if you have had chicken pox you can get shingles from someone else.

Betty asks…
How long is a person with shingles contagious?
This is a question for a doctor or nurse or someone who has dealt with this. I know that shingles is not contagious, but that if you haven’t had chickenpox, you can contract the chickenpox virus. I’m wanting to know when I can go back around my grandmother, who came down with the blisters a week ago, but now says they are gone and she is better. I have 3 small children and am pregnant and I DON’T want them to get sick. Can anyone tell me if she is really NOT contagious after the blisters go away? This is highly important! Thank you so much!

admin answers:
Your Grandmother should be fine so long as the blisters have gone away completely.
I had shingles a couple of years ago and I kept away from the family all the time that I had any sign of rash or blisters and for 1 week after they had gone away, just to be on the safe side.
I am sure your grandmother will understand why you have stayed away and that you are worried, especially as you are pregnant. You should not be in contact with anyone with shingles or chickenpox to safeguard yourself, your children and your unborn baby.
It wont last forever so you will be able to get back round to see your grandmother very soon.

Sharon asks…
Are shingles contagious if taking Acyclovir and blisters have not formed yet?
My 9 year old child was diagnosed with shingles today and given Acyclovir. The bumps appeared overnight and they are not yet blisters. Will the Acyclovir keep her from getting the blisters and being contagious? The pharmacist said she would be contagious for 48 hours, but I am hearing conflicting information from family. We are concerned about her taking a road trip in the next two days where she will be around a 9 month old baby. Thanks!!

George asks…
Is shingles contagious to a child who has had the Chicken Pox Vaccine?
We are visiting my mother in law next weekend and she just had a breakout of shingles. My children ages 8 and 6 have had the Chicken Pox Vaccine. Will this be contagious to them? Should I reschedule our trip?

admin answers:
Shingles is the chicken pox virus, it is not contagious after they have stopped breaking out. She might be glad of a little support, but if she is very sick don’t burden her with a visit.

Maria asks…
How long is shingles contagious on objects?
Someone in my office has shingles, and I have never had chicken pox. I know that I can contract chicken pox via direct contact with the rash of the person with shingles. What I’m wondering is how long the virus will last on objects. She’s gone today, but I have to do her filing, and I noticed her scratching her blisters a lot yesterday. How long can the virus live on her papers, door handles, etc?

admin answers:
The incubation period is two weeks, so the symptoms won’t show.
Also, your face looks like a butt.
