My two year old has shingles, does this mean his immune system is weak?
My two year old has just been diagnosed by ther doctor with shingles, although he has never had visible chicken pox or the vaccination.
I am worried, as after researching on the internet, it says it is very rare for a two year old to get the disease, and if it happens, could be sign of a weak immune system or something more serious.
I am really, really worried and don’t know what to do. Help, i’m going nuts.
Thanks in advance.

admin answers:
I agree it is a bit unusual for a 2 year old to get shingles instead of chicken pox. However, it will still clear up and the child will have life time immunity most likely. Very little chance of any lasting negative impact on the child.
I would not agree that the immune system is weak because most kids that are not vaccinated will eventually get pox virus, in your case the disease has manifested itself in the form of shingles instead of pox lesions.
Relax, see the Doc it will be over soon.

Sharon asks…
How do you find where a roof is leaking when it is covered by shingles?
They all look good and in place but a lot of water is getting thru in one spot. Directly above that spot on the roof, there is no sign of damage or anything that would result in a leak

admin answers:
Water travels the road of least resistance. You may have water you can see in on spot but the leak may be higher up. Joists, seams, roof cap (top ridge) vally flange (where 2 angles meet). Look for a spot that doesn’t look right. If all fails call a pro!!! It’s best to get it fixed ASAP. Water does more damage than you think – rot, mold etc…

Laura asks…
Would anyone know what the signs of burning to touch skin, though there is no evident brusing or rash or?
Or incident to give me a reason for that. I was thinking that someone said that the shingles give that sensation. Anyone know?

admin answers:
Shingles usually starts below the skin. It is usually characterized by a deep pain or burning sensation before anything visible shows on the skin. If you think you have shingles, you should seek medical attention right away. They can be very painful.

Linda asks…
Zoysia – any suggestions?
Zoysia
I take my constitutional, my walk
throughout the several neighborhoods in town.
The sky is grey, the air December chilled
and last night’s frost has turned the zoysia brown.
I see a dollar dropped by someone careless;
I see a bottle tossed upon the ground;
the sparks begin to fly within my psyche
and last night’s frost has turned the zoysia brown.
My body’s sweating but my hands are cold.
I shove them in my pockets, hear the sound
of money jingling. Is it enough?
And last night’s frost has turned the zoysia brown.
The shingled sign is in dire need of painting;
the blue awning is trying to drag me down;
I take five steps for each three sidewalk cracks
and last night’s frost has turned the zoysia brown.
