No, you can catch chickenpox from shingles, but not the other way round. Shingles is not caught, but is due to reactivation of previous chickenpox infection.

Sure is, BUT keep in mind this is the virus that causes chicken pox that has lain dormant in the body. There are some people who may be immune.

I just found out i had shingles … which i didn’t even know you could get when your 25 but whatever anyways it’s on my back and I have 4 daughters and one being a newborn … is this contagious because i don’t wanna give it to them and it could be harmful for kids .

but i can’t stay away from them my g/f can’t take care of newborn and 3 other kids … not gonna happen.

Shingles is only contagious if you have never had chicken pox. Depending on how old your daughters are, they may have already had the vaccination. The newborn should still be protected by your antibodies, though that isn’t always perfect. Primarily as long as you keep the sores covered and don’t let them touch it, and are careful to wash your hands after you change the dressing, plus get the old dressing out of the house- you should be able to keep them from catching it. In the shingles form, chicken pox isn’t airborne via droplets, fortunately. Most children get the vaccination with the MMR shot, at about 12-15 months of age, and then a booster when they start school. If yours are fully immunized, it should be no problem. I didn’t have to google this, I answer this question all the time. Most often I start answering a lot when school starts each year.

Shingles is the after effect of chickenpox so if someone who has not had chicken pox comes into contact they will get CHICKENPOX not shingles the shingles are contageous untill all the blisters have dried and scabbed over keep coved to be on the safe side
