8 Things that IncreaseLower Back Pain
Article by Greg Garner
Lower back pain is as common as the common cold. This means that low back pain is suffered many people at some point in their lifetime. It is also widely believed that this disorder is not a disease. It is a manifestation of a disease or what is clinically known as a symptom of a disease. There are two different forms of low back pain- acute and chronic. Other than injuries and faulty postures, sometime several deep seated syndromes cause this pain.
Analyzing Some Disorders than Cause Back Pain
• Chronic pain may have its seeds in underlying syndromes. A gamut of syndromes like appendicitis, kidney disorders like infections and stones, pelvic ailments, uterine and bladder syndromes and last but not the least, ovarian diseases can instigate excruciating pain. This pain is also experienced during pregnancies and pelvic ligament sprains.
• Chronic pain can also be linked to a nerve problem. A bulging disc often exerts pressure in the nerves, causing excruciating pain whenever you try to be mobile. Other than this, sciatica or impinged nerve roots also can be pinned down as a root cause of pain.
• Often, herniated discsmay be responsible for the problem. With age, the thickness of the spinal disc degenerates. This causes the soft central part of the disc to protrude outwards and pressurize the spinal cord, causing very bad spells of pain.
• Another major culprit is acute Spondylosis. Small discs separate the various vertebrae in the lower back portion. Under normal circumstances, the discs remain lubricated and as long as they are moisturized, you will not be plagued with pain. However, with age, the lubrication dries out and the size of the disc reduces. This abrasion increases whenever you are active, causing hurtful episodes.
• Cauda Equina is a very disturbing disease. In this disease, the disc protrusions poke the spinal cord nerves. Nerve compression in this disorder also causes a numbness of the back. Secondary disorders like bladder malfunction, bowel, and urination problems happen. This can cause musculoskeletal or my ofascial pain and fibromyalgia.
• An infectious syndrome clinically termed as osteomyelitis often causes low back pain.
• Malignant tumours also cause back pain.
• Herpes zoster is an infectious virus which often attacks the lumber area of the spine.
Treatments of this Syndrome
If the pain is not superficial, prolonged treatments might be the only option for you. Often, physiotherapies, surgical options, and prescription medications are given to handle the pain and cure the problem. Often, bed rest is also recommended. Yoga, Bowen therapy, acupuncture, willow bark, massage therapy, and prolotherapy are some treatments that can cure the pain.
Back pains may also be a culmination of health complications originating from the kidney, bladder, or the uterus. Malignant tumours too can cause the problem. Often low back pain appears during old age. This is why if you are approaching 60 then you must commence your home work on age appropriate care for pain. To eliminate these problems, you might be slapped with an astronomical medical bill. Insurance cover becomes important if you have to deal with extensive treatments. You must therefore also learn the regulations imbibed in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act so that you can take legal steps against insurance firms who have violated rules while handling your case.
