Your Questions About Shingles

Jenny asks…

The doctor first said I have a scratched cornea and then said I have an infection behind my eye?

I am writing this for my husband. He is currently laying in a dark room, trying to get away from the pain. Five days ago the doc said he just had a scratched cornea after he was complaining that his eye hurt (said it felt like his contact was folded in half in his eye). Then the pain went into his head. A new doc two days later said he had an infection and that was causing extreme pain to the middle of his head. A doc today said he may have Shingles in his head. His eye is red and he says it feels like needles are poking his eye ball with extreme pain in his head and right behind the eye. He is crouched over from the pain in his head. He can see, but his eye is very teary and maybe even swollen. The doc gave him anit-inflamitory meds and meds to kill a virus. Nothing is helping. It has gotten prgressively worse and worse over the course of four days. He had a lot of stress in his life two weeks ago. Don’t know what else to do. He cannot sleep and lies awake all night.

I’ve had my cornea scratched twice. It feels like someone is taking sandpaper across your eyeball. It gave me agonizing headaches. I went to the emergency room and there they numbed my eye and used a black light and found the scratch. I know what he’s goin’ through and it sucks. Don’t wait any longer…….Get up and go now. As for the shingles….I agree with the first response. Never heard of shingles in the head. Ask his doctor if he has ever heard of “foot in the @$$” Good Luck.

solution for facial nerve damage pain?

I have a condition called postherpetic neuralgia, and I am desperate for a solution to my forehead nerve damage pain. I need help finding a nerve specialist doctor. I live in Tuolumne County. I am willing to travel if I can a doctor who can help me. I got the shingles virus in 2001, and have been fighting the stabbing, stinging pain for way too long! It’s totally changed my life, and I’m getting worn out, and depressed from the constant pain on the right side of my forehead, and top of head. I take pain med. to alleviate the pain, but nothing stops it completely. I really need help with medical research. I have seen several doctors for PHN, but without success. I need a solution, not more medicine. I need support, and help. Can anyone help me?

admin answers:

Lots of things will create nerved damage and most doctors can only prescribe something to deaden the pain. Your body needs specific nutrients to be able to repair the damage that was done by the shingles.

You can read about it here http://www.mcvitamins.com/Causes%20of%20Neuropathy/shingles.htm

Sandra asks…

Does anyone have PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with SHINGLES?

84 Year old Grandma is in excruciating pain. Feels like her face and head are on fire. Pain meds aren’t helping yet. (Vicodin and Neurontin). She has Heart Disease too and I’m afraid with the pain, she could have a Heart Attack. Have any of you had Shingles? Is there anything that especially worked well for the pain? Thank you for any help you can give us. This is just terrible. Her Dr. never told her to have the Vaccination against it. This could have been prevented. If anyone out there is 60 years old or older, I’d urge you to get the Vaccination.

admin answers:

Oh the poor woman, having shingles twice I know the pain and distress she must be in.

If the attack had been picked up earlier she could have been given a anti-viral, which may have shortened the attack and pain, especially if started in 72 hours of attack starting.

If the blisters have not dried up, I would use compresses with a solution of vinegar and water. Calamine lotion may also help.

A combination of these 3 Essential oils eucalyptus, tea tree and bergamot or Chamomile, Lavender and Tea Tree are really good for shingles, 2 drops of each mixed with a little olive oil or Vodka and dabbed on every few hours may also help with the pain. As it is on her face I would possibly go for the Chamomile, lavender and Tea Tree mix as it is not so over powering or sting as much, and the Chamomile and lavender are soothing and moisturizing, and the Tea Tree is a natural antiseptic, as well as a antifungal.

If the pain is really bad maybe she needs to see her doctor who will prescribe some other medication and or ointment to help relieve the pain.

Look in to seeing if it is not to late to have the vaccine, to prevent future outbreaks. I am fairly certain it won’t be.

Good luck and hope the pain settles soon for your Grandma.

Nancy asks…

need infomation on shingles in side of the body?

my wife got shingles they say they on the inside if the body she having servere pain in the top of her head

admin answers:

Many people are under the impression that shingles is only a topical distress. One can have shingles on the brain as an example. If your wife was told they are inside, perhaps they were refering to the virus that runs thru the nerves. When I get them, I get shooting pains in my head that attack like a spasm. I haven’t found anything yet to ease the pain….you are not suffering alone. Good luck.

William asks…

Back to Lyrica questions again!?

I’m off of the Lyrica for facial shingles. I’ve been tapering off from 300 mg. to 150 mg.for a week now and have been totally off of it for 3 days! Today I went to Weight Watchers and had lost 15.2 pounds! They couldn’t believe it. Well, I’ve had a ‘bug’ for 3 days and only eaten toast and some water but the big thing is the swelling I had begun to experience in my feet and legs is completely gone! Could this be due not only to my not eating but to discontinuing the Lyrica? I had read that it had ‘edema’ as a side effect but I knew the swelling I had last week was not normal. Also, I do have this ‘shooting’ pain in my head off and on ( same side the shingles has been on) and boy did it ‘really hurt’ the night I was ‘throwing up’ (sorry). Guess that’s from the sudden ‘purging’ of one’s body causeing head pressure. Anyway, has anyone had this experience of weight loss and/or water retention with Lyrica? thanks

admin answers:

Yes, i was on Lyrica for about a week and my feet and ankles blew up……..my ankles looked like elephant feet…i’m not lying so i got off of it (i was taking 75mg) and the swelling went down within a week……….i was on it for nerve damage…not shingles or diabetics or seizures……….it was horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
