Your Questions About Shingles

Donna asks…

does anyone have information on “internal” shingles, like shingles in/ on internal organs.diagnosis, treatment

my mother had a severe case on her upper back and around L lung, now has spots on lung, read that shingles can affect internal organs, if immune system is comprised.but i can’t find anything about how they determine this or treat
PLEASE HELP, can’t seem to find any information on this anywhere

admin answers:

Shingles are jolly painful, and realy feel for your mother, having had several attacks myself.

I have never heard of internal shingles, but I sure it does happen, as you can get chicken pox in side to, my husband and child both had chicken pox realy bad and had them in side too.

I have found some information on shingles, so you might like to check them out.

Wish your mother a speedy recovery

Robert asks…

how long until my shingles is gone?

im 14 yrs old and i got shingles about 2 days ago
its on the right side of my face on a small trail from my ear to my nose and it covers my eye. its really sore and stings and i find it really hard to go to sleep at night because it hurts to close my eye
i caught it really soon and i have been treating it really well
but how long until it will clear up ???

admin answers:

Im sorry to hear that. I got shingles about 6 months ago. If u are on an anti-viral like valtrex, it should speed the healing process. Also the fact that you are young reduces the healing time and reduces the chance of phantom pain. That said, it will be at least 2-3 weeks before all the “bubbles” go down. Don’t pick at it at all. I had scarring on my chest for months.

Donald asks…

I have hv2 blisters they are patches some are single over my body. DR said not shingles but more testing?!?

I was just diagnosed with hv2 a month ago. Dr said single blisters are not shingles, on my body, as Valtrax would prevent them. So now the same dermatologist will look at it. Last time I saw him, he diagnosed me with scabies, which I had, treated, then were gone. I showed him my genital hv2, and he said they were scabies again! Treated 2 times, and it turned out to be hv2 diagnosed during a pap smear biopsy. The dermatologist really pissed me off! I could have been on Valtrex along time ago! How long does the itching last on genital hv2~Can I scratch lightly thru clothing? I am very upset about the Dr’s here. Prep H helps alot…go figure.

admin answers:

Don’t scratch. You run the risk of getting them infected and making the whole situation worse – even though I’m sure you think it can’t get worse. Do you have some Benadryl on hand? If so you can take one and if that doesn’t stop the itching, take another. Be sure you’re at home and not driving around cause Benadryl makes you sleepy. If Prep. H is helping, keep using it. Can’t hurt.
I have to tell you I’d ditch this doctor in a hurry. Go see someone else. Soon. You’re right, you could have been on Valtrex or one of the other drugs already. There is so much available these days there’s no reason for you or anyone to be going through this.

Ken asks…

Has anyone else had shingles and know how painful they are?

I have been going through pain on my left side for about six months now and finally turned red on my left side where I had the pain-like a large blister going half way around! I went to the emergency room to be treated and I was in lots of pain the first doctor was very nice-the second one called me a liar and I have reported him-The way I look at it is that I have been going through enough already feeling like I have been cooked from the inside out I am still not over the pain -was I right in anyone else opion in reporting the second Emergency room doctor for his rudness!! also parents think twice and get your child’s chicken pox shots!!!!!

admin answers:

You were absolutely right in reporting. It was very inhuman on his behalf if he called you a liar and its stronly against medical ethics. I’m a medical student myself and have come across many shingles patients. I could always see that all those patients were in extreme pain. We have always been directed by our physicians and senior doctors to treat all such patients very gently.
Shingles is basically an inflammation of a spinal nerve route caused by a virus Herpes Simplex. So its a very painful condition. And the worse part is that the pain is not relieved much by medication. We have to wait for the virus to complete its life cycle.
I would advise you to go and see your physician. He would be more understanding and will be able to treat you better. He might even advise you any topical application which might help lessen the pain a bit.
Good luck. I hope you feel better in no time.
🙂

Chris asks…

I have SHINGLES! It hurts so much…When will the pain and itching go away?

I am 13 years old and I have Shingles. I had chickenpox at age 7 and I already know much about this. All I want to know is when how long the pain and itching lasts. I am lucky because it is only on my torso but it hurts SO MUCH. I try to control the itching and it’s not as bad but the pain is everlasting. It’s almost 3AM and I still can’t sleep.

Here’s the story if you really want to know deeper:

On Monday I just felt some pain, I thought it may have been a cramp but I warned my dad and he was busy enough as it was. I started complaining more and showed him my back and front eventually and I discovered all the sores (this was Wednesday or Thursday (Yes, that also means that I didn’t get it treated as soon as I should have, which is 24-48 hours)). The pain is only getting worse, and the itching is too.

I have read that eventually the sores burst and crust up. When does this happen? And does this mark when the pain goes away? I can live with the appearance (it’s not like I take off my shirt in front of everyone everyday) and I’ve heard the appearance lasts a month.

Also, does it stop being contagious at one point? I go to school and I didn’t tell them but I’ve asked some friends if they have had chicken pox and some said no, which means they could get it from me.

admin answers:

You will have the outbreak until your immune system is able to supress the virus again. How long that takes can be anywhere from a few weeks to a month or so. Hopefully you have seen the doctor and gotten an anti-viral that will help speed that along. You should also have gotten something for the pain. If it’s just not working, then in the morning you can give the doctor a call and let them know you need something a litle stronger at least to take at night. As far as what to do in the meantime, try something cold, frozen peas or corn will help numb the skin a bit. Technically, you are contagious as long as you have any open sores, and will be until it is all dried up. However, in order for somebody to catch it from you currently they pretty much have to touch the open pox. You should be keeping it all covered with a bandage while you are at school, which also helps it not be quite so sensitive and painful from the clothing brushing against it. Otherwise, it’s best if you leave it open and uncovered. Unlike active chicken pox, you are not breathing out the chicken pox in your viral secretions. It’s only in the open and weeping sores on your torso. Your friends may not have had chicken pox because they were immunized. That will help protect them. They may also simply not remember having it, since many children get it even before they start school. I wouldn’t much worry about giving it to your friends. As long as you are careful not to touch the spot and then touch them, you will all be fine. When it heals you should not have any scars to show, providing you don’t go digging in with your fingernails. I’m sorry to hear you are suffering through this, as shingles are just a real misery even for older folks. It can’t be any more pleasant for you now. Try the cold/frozen stuff to help for now, and try to keep cool as you can. You can also try cold wet cloths, or use a 1 ounce of vinegar to 32 ounces of water to sponge it to help with itch. You can also soak in a cool tub of water with either a handful of oatmeal or Aveeno bath soak, or baking soda. If the itch is really, really bad, you can take Benadryl to help with that. And call your doctor in the morning for something to help in the nighttime. As a rule, it seems to itch and hurt even worse then than during the daytime. With some luck, you will be able to say goodbye to it in about 2 weeks. Now you know what to look for as far as your warning signs, you will know to seek help fast if it breaks out again in the future. Sorry dear, I wish I had better help to offer you.

Choose the Best Treatment for Herpes

Choose the Best Treatment for Herpes

Article by bcured

80% of the world’s population has serological evidence of HSV1, while 20%-30% of the U.S. population is seropositive for HSV2. Add chickenpox, shingles, the immunosuppressant drugs by cancer and organ-transplant patients, along with the increasing number of immunosuppressed patients who have HIV and AIDS, and it’s not hard to understand why we are now seeing a greater incidence of herpes infection. Oral herpes affects areas of the mouth and face. HSV1 is the most common cause of oral herpes. However, HSV2 can also cause oral herpes infections. In other words, either HSV1 or HSV2 may be responsible for oral herpes.Recurring symptoms or outbreaks may develop as soon as 5 to 10 days after the initial infection. Symptoms include painful blisters around the month, often accompanied by a cold or fever, hence the term “cold” sores or “fever” blisters. Immunity plays a key role in outbreaks. When the system is stressed or the immune system is weakened, the virus travels down the ganglia and resurfaces on the skin, causing an outbreak. For reasons unknown, HSV2 seems to gravitate towards the genital tract and is therefore the most common cause of genital herpes. However, HSV1 can also manifest in the genital region and cause genital herpes. When the virus erupts on the surface of the skin, causing an outbreak, typical symptoms are inflamed blisters or ulcers. As the infection is caused by either HSV1 or HSV2, lesions resemble cold sores. The first outbreak commonly reveals its aggravating presence 4-7 days after the initial infection of HSV. In females, outbreaks occur on or near the vulva, labia, clitoris, pubis, or anus. In males, herpes lesions can appear anywhere on the penis, scrotum, or around the anus. Outbreaks are commonly accompanied by pain, itching, or burning. Some experience enlarged lymph nodes, muscle pain, and fatigue. Some experience prodrome before an outbreak. This is a tingling, itching, or painful sensation experienced prior to an outbreak. Prodrome symptoms may be experienced for several days or for a few hours. Use of an antiviral treatment during prodrome is known to reduce the duration of an outbreak, and it may even abort the outbreak for some individuals. Herpes is hardly the worst disease in the world. Untreated, syphilis and gonorrhea do far more damage. Unfortunately, there is no known “cure” for herpes. Use of a condom is recognized to be the most reliable method to prevent transmission of the virus.Effective treatments are available which can reduce the frequency and severity of outbreaks, stop viral reproduction, and reduce viral load, all of which greatly mitigate outbreaks and allow sufferers to control the condition. Acyclovir is the most popular drug prescribed for herpes. However, the emergence of acyclovir-resistant virus strains has created the need for the development of new effective antiviral agents. New anti-herpetic chemical drug compounds have been identified, but they have significant adverse effects when consumed and HSV has again developed drug resistance to these new compounds. As new chemical drug options are not viable, plant medicines for treating herpes are being investigated with great interest.Recent scientific studies of plant medicines show very encouraging results and have sparked a new methodology for treating herpes. One of the advantages of natural drugs is that they are not drug resistant in application. Chemical drugs such as antibiotic used clinically can cause drug resistance of microorganism and parasite easily, thus reducing the sensibility to drugs. Abuses of antibiotic and other chemical drugs have already cut down the role of these antibiotics severely and produce new viruses consequently. Application of chemical drugs aggravates chemical pollutions in the body, make body over-burdened and immune response wrong, and cause immune hypersensitivity; hence autoimmune diseases and immunodeficiency increases. In the past, people looked up to the success of modern biomedicine and believed that infectious diseases had been almost eliminated and the rest can be controlled by immunity and antibiotics. However, it is found that malignant bacterias present apparent drug resistant ability and acclimation ability. Old infectious diseases reactivate again and even outbreak seriously. Some unknown deathful viruses in the past emerge; what’s more, factors such modern life style, communications, environments and so on increase the possibility of transmission of viruses. Human health has been under serious threat; thus, in the struggle with disease people pay their attention to natural drugs. To learn more, please go to http://www.naturespharma.org.

Symptoms Found in Chicken Pox and Shingles

Symptoms Found in Chicken Pox and Shingles

Symptoms of Chickenpox ( varicella ) may vary from pacient to pacient making us see people that have headaches, flue like symptoms or even fever, that in some cases can reach 105 F, and swollen glands are also included. The incubation period of the theChickenpox may also vary from 10 to 20 days, again depending on the pacient and its immune system.

This doesn’t last much. Shortly after the flue like symptoms have past the rash breaks out. By rash we understand the appearance of tiny red bumps, mostly on the face, chest or abdomen. Spreading relatively quickly, they start to get bigger in a mater of hours forming a blister on a red base. A funny comparison has been found for them: dewdrops on rose petals. At first the fluid in the blisters is clear only to become cloudy during the period of several days and eventually forming a scab and falling of after another four. The number of blister also varies; while some pacients of chickenpox have only a few ones, other can have hundreds, on top of that being the fact that they each like crazy. Lasting seven to ten days, the disease causes the pacient to have several crops of blisters.

Another type of skin disease would be the shingles (Herpes Zoster) attack. Occurring nearly always on adults, we see it developing on one side of the human body and having three identifiable symptoms.

->Prodrome: a cluster of warning symptoms appearing before the outbreak of the infection.

->The infection begins.

->Postherpetic neuralgi a develops.

Pain is a very common symptom in herpes zoster, often appearing well before the appearance of the rash.

Predrome (pain) – being the first symptom to appear in pacients, it appears to be located at the very site where the virus will be re-activating, making the pain be sharp, piercing, tearing or even similar to an electric shock. Besides pain, the pacient might feel that thatarea is itching or be unbearably sensitive to touch. Muscles aches and even fever are some of the extreme symptoms of the disease. Although usually lasting only a couple of days before the rash, cases have been known where the pain has lasted more … lot more for weeks or even month.

Active shingles – it marks the actual infection. 50% or 60% of cases occur on the trunk, the side of head being the next big area on witch it appears, making a very big risk the fact that the infection could spread to the mouth or eyes. First a rash appears only to become small fluid-filled blisters in about 12 hours witch eventually grow and become pus filled. The healing last as long as in chickenpox : up to 10 days.

Zoster Sine Herpete is the condition when the pain is not followed by the rash, this thing occurring more often in elder pacients, with symptoms very similar to the ones of chickenpox.

What is Shingles?

What is Shingles?

Article by Annette Badowski

Shingles is a skin rash that is caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV), the very same virus that causes chickenpox. Once a person gets over the initial outbreak of chickenpox, this virus lives in the nervous system, never fully leaving the body. When certain situations, such as stress, or the onset of immunodeficiency disorders develop, the virus can reactivate, causing shingles. More commonly however, the actual cause for the reactivation of the virus is never found. Anyone who has ever had chickenpox is at risk or developing shingles.

What are the symptoms of Shingles?

The initial onset of shingles can display as an extreme sensitivity or burning sensation on the skin in the affected area. It can include itching, tingling, burning, constant aching, or deep, shooting pain. Within a few days, a rash develops. It will usually present itself as a band that follows the route of a nerve under the skin. The Shingles rash itself looks like small red spots and reddened skin in the same area that eventually turn into small blisters. The blisters dry up after a few days, forming scabs that leave a small pockmark in the skin when they fall off.Shingles is considered to be an intensely painful condition because the virus affects the nerves. The pain may even linger and continue long after the rash has cleared up. This pain could go on for weeks, months or even years. This is called post-herpetic neuralgia and is more likely to occur in older people and those who had a severe outbreak from the rash.

What causes Shingles?

Although the reasons are not fully understood, any weakening of the body’s immune system can cause the Varicella zoster virus to “reawaken” and appear in adulthood as shingles. Conditions that may weaken the systems include aging, HIV/AIDS, colds, cancer, organ transplants, long term courses of steroids, various medical treatments like chemotherapy or radiation therapy, stress or excessive alcohol intake.

It is important to note that shingles is not a new infection; it is a second outbreak of the chicken pox virus. For whatever reasons, the herpes zoster virus wakes up from the dormant state and grows. Once active, the germs travel along the nerve paths to the skin, and the result is the aching rash of shingles.

Your Questions About Shingles

Charles asks…

Question about shingles.?

I had chicken pox as a child….I now have shingles…not even 40 yrs old. I work in healthcare with children…could it have been that I was around a child incubating the chicken pox virus and it reactivated the old virus in me causing me to have shingles?? Going through a lot of stress also, just had a baby 7 mos ago with 4 other children at home….busy, busy household!

admin answers:

Shingles is caused by reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. After an episode of chickenpox, the virus resides in cells of the nervous system, where it can reside quietly for decades. It belongs to a group of viruses called herpesviruses, which also includes the herpes simplex virus (HSV); HSV-1 causes cold sores and HSV-2 causes genital herpes.

It is not possible to “catch” shingles from another person. Children or adults who have never had chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine, however, can develop chickenpox after direct (skin to skin) contact with a shingles blister, or less commonly, following skin to skin or airborne (air droplets) exposure to a person with widespread zoster.

Mark asks…

my child has chickenpox will i catch shingles again from her pox?

hi i have had shingles in the past i had them for 6 weeks cause they got infected from me trying to dry them out. my child got sent home from school today she’s the 6th student in her class this week to go home with chicken pox . i know you can get chicken pox from shingles but can you get shingles from the chicken pox?? i’m terrified of catching shingles again

admin answers:

What do you mean will you “catch shingles again”? Who told you you’re cured? You have herpes zoster and always will. A for chicken pox, you’re immune. You’ve already had chicken pox. That’s how you ended up with herpes zoster.

Mandy asks…

Is it Shingles or Herpes simplex?

So this is my third bout with Shingles. Or so I thought. The first two time was a very clear cut case of shingles. Flu like symptoms a few days before the bumps came up. Eventually the rash spread from the side of the spine across my ribs and under the breast up to the mid-line and not crossing over. I have bruises and felt like my ribs were crushed. This time everything is the same except it hasn’t spread that far yet. It is confined to the one spot where it had started the previous times. (Thank GOD) I’m in extreme pain, and the doctor I saw this time is trying to tell me it isn’t shingles but instead Herpes Simplex. First of all, I feel very doubtful over this. I have never even had a fever blister before. How could I have Herpes. She wants to diagnose me with this, without even doing a test or culture. She said she couldn’t do a culture since it wasn’t a blister. This was all after she wanted to tell me because I had gotten a tattoo 4 years ago I needed to be tested for HIV, even though I have been tested twice since with each of my pregnancies. She seemed intent on pegging me with an STD. I just don’t understand this. My husband wants me to go to another doctor tomorrow. One that isn’t free (i went to the health center on campus). My problem with this is if the Shingles is not treated properly then I can end with nerve damage. Which we thought I was going to have a problem with the first time with shingles since I had waited so long to go to the doctor with it. I was in severe pain for a whole month! I would just like to hear someone’s input on this before I go shell out money to get rediagnosed. Would Herpes Simplex cause all of these same symptoms. The preceding pain across the ribs. The bruises. The feeling of crushed ribs. Pain in my shoulder and and the bicep of my arm? Fatique?
Also, because the first diagnosis of shingles last year, I haven’t minded touching the rash because I knew I couldn’t spread it all over my body. I made sure to keep my hands washed because of my young children, but my husband also didn’t mind rubbing cornstarch on it to help relieve the pins and needles feeling for me. Wouldn’t we have spread it to other places if I was touching it and so was he? I brought this up to the doc and she could only say we were very fortunate to not have spread it. Doesn’t make any sense. Okay, I know this was very long, and I appreciate anyone that read this whole question and for any input or opinions.
Thank you in advance.

admin answers:

If you don’t have blisters, I would tend to think you are having a recurrence of shingles. For some reason, shingles tend to produce fewer blisters with subsequent outbreaks.

I’m with your husband…get a second opinion.

Helen asks…

Please Help, My 10 year old sister has gone mad and wants to die?

Ok, I’m 14 with a younger sister of 10. She started her periods a couple of months ago which may have something to do with this.

She got shingles yesterday so is in a bad mood. We have been told that it’s from stress. My sister says it’s from my mother causing her the stress. I, however see things a lot differently.

I see my sister as very spoilt, she kicks and screams when she doesn’t get her own way. She antagnoises my mother, my father and myself. My father and her get along really well but he’s kept his nose out of this one.

What happened today was, earlier my mother was watching tv. She never gets to watch her own programs because of my spoilt sister. Whilst my mother was watching tv, my sister came into the room and started F***ing about, irritating me and my mother. We gave no response and instead got up and walked out of the room. Then as soon as we left she grabbed hold of the control and watched her programs. Me, being rather pissed off she had got her own way, AGAIN. I decided to return the favour and made a racket whilst she was watching tv. Sister then started using violence towards me. I didn’t do anything because i am a hell of a lot bigger than her, which made her even more angry.

It then somehow got to ‘kill me’, ‘kill me’. I’m not sure how and I’m not sure why. Then she was screaming at my mother. I want you to kill me. And was then screaming that my mother was the one who caused her shingles and all sorts. Really upsetting for my mother whom started to cry.

I don’t think my mother caused my sisters shingles, she caused them herself because she gets really really moody when she doesn’t get her own way.

What do you propose I do, or any member of the family do. She is a rather strange child and I want to help because she really knows how to get to my mum. It’s horrible.

Thanks in advance.

Daniel asks…

I am 6 months pregnant and have had a really hard pregnancy. Am I being selfish?

I was hospitalized for 9 days with a bacterial infection in my stomach, I am severly anemic and I am so physically tired from the anemia and pregnancy. My step daughters brother just came down with shingles and I am responsible to watch her this weekend because my husband works. I am afraid of getting something from my step daughter when I don’t know if shes touched her brothers open sores. From reading on line thats how shingles can spread. Shingles I think can cause birth defects in fetuses. Am I wrong that I want to protect my unborn child?

admin answers:

You aren’t being selfish at all. Your health and the health of your unborn child comes first at this point. You need to let them know that other arrangements need to be made for watching her this weekend. Don’t feel the least bit guilty about it.

Modern wood shingles make for historic look

Modern wood shingles make for historic look

Wood Shingles

The Evolution of Wood Shingles
by Roof101 – Wood was used for all construction purposes from the early days of American settlement in the 17th century. Wood shingles – lightweight and simple to install – have largely kept their popularity for the centuries to follow. New wood shingles can be designed in different patterns, shapes, sizes and exposure lengths to fit with English, German, Dutch and other styles. With wooden shingles each building looks unique.

History of Wood Shingles
The wood that was used in the past was usually the wood found in the region the home was built. This dependency on local woods contributed to the variety of wood shingles, as did the hand-techniques of using only the inner, heartwood section of the logs for better quality wood, smoothing the wood shingle pine on a shavinghorse to make them fit evenly on the roof. Only later, with steam-powered saw mills, did wood shingles become more uniform. This is the time that Carpenter and Queen Anne architectural styles developed. Even though wood shingles are flammable and other roof shingles are widely available, wooden shingles have remained with us to this day. Today’s undressed wood shingles, their rough surface looking historic, are in fact a modern style.

Wood Shingles and Shakes
Wood shingles that are rough and rustic are called shakes. They come in varying sizes and lengths of 16, 18 and 24 inches. Nailing wood shingles is done in a way that enables air circulation, while shakes are laid so that they form a tight surface. Both methods are devised to assure durability and resist decay. Treatment of wood shingles and shakes can slow down natural weathering processes, though expect a 1/4 inch or more to be lost over the period of a century. Wood shingles and shakes alike can be installed over previous layers of asphalt shingles or wood shingles. Furthermore, wood shingle roof repair is made simpler this way.

Alternative Shingles Treatment – Oxygen Therapy

Article by John Daniel Rivera

Shingles is an infection caused by the varicella zoster virus, a member of the herpes family and the same virus that causes chickenpox. The characteristic symptom is a rash of painful blisters. Shingles can appear anywhere on the body. If it occurs on the forehead near the eyes or on the tip of the nose, the eyes are likely to become involved, and damage to the cornea can occur. Taking the proper supplements when blisters first appear can make the blisters dry up quickly, and the discomfort may be alleviated.

Recommendations for alternative shingles treatment – oxygen therapyApply zinc oxide cream to the blisters and the affected area. After the blisters have healed over, apply aloe vera gel and vitamin E to the area. If shingles appear on the forehead near the eyes or on the tip of the nose, seek treatment from an ophthalmologist. If zinc oxide, aloe vera gel, and or vitamin E do not work to heal the blisters within 3days, intranevous injections of 25grams of vitamin C should provide relief almost immediately. Combining it with the self administered oxygen therapy makes it poweful enough to destroy the virus.

One thing to remember is Alternative shingles treatment – oxygen therapy that is endorsed by almost European doctors is the self-administered oxygen therapy. They have found out that, microbes, harmful bacteria, and viruses such as shingles, and all forms of STD’s, cancer heart disease and even aids, do not cause the disease by themselves. They just reproduce and spread in their natural habitat the oxygen – deprived body. The moment our body is depleted of oxygen it becomes acidic and normally all kinds of viruses and harmful bacteria thrive and reproduce exponentially. The body with enough supply of oxygen is uninhabitable by all kinds of diseases and viruses. Therefore, the recommended first line of defense is to keep the body always oxygenated. Generic Herpes Treatment Drug

Generic Herpes Treatment Drug

Article by Tamara Baggott

Genital Herpes is the sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is caused due to two types of the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) – HSV1 and HSV2. The symptoms are painful, burning and tingling sensations in or around the genital area and the appearance of lesions or blisters. The STD is commonly prevailing amongst human population and there is growing instance of the disease due to the liberal social values that allows multiple sexual relationships. However, it can also be caused through external mediums like an infected public toilet seat. In most cases, this viral disease can reoccur over time especially in patients with poor immune system. It is one of the frequent causes of psychological distress in patients.Valacyclovir is an antiviral drug that has shown effective results against this dreadful genital disease. Valacyclovir is marketed under the trade name valtrex. It not only treats viral genital diseases but also takes care of shingles, cold sores and chicken pox. Major pharmaceutical manufacturers used to sell these prescription drugs for some time now but recently the generic versions are released thus giving the patients a cost-effective access to these significant anti-viral drugs. The generic forms of drugs are generally ones that are chemically similar with the only distinction of the absence of a brand name. Most of the cost of the prescription drugs comprises of the cost incurred on the production, the research and development and the patenting done on the drugs. Thus they are priced at a rate that is substantially higher than that of the generic drugs.People who are not properly informed about the concept of generic drugs are generally skeptical on the purchase of these cheaper versions of the generic drugs on account of the possible risks of buying something cheaper. However, they need not worry since using generic drugs have no unnecessary or unseen repercussions that one needs to be scared about. Generic valtrex, for instance, has nothing that is different from its prescribed version except for maybe the appearance and the loss of the brand name and some difference in the non-active ingredients that is not a great deal.Generic valtrex shows the same curing effects on herpes zoster (shingles) and genital herpes. It comes in a tablet form with 500mg and 1000mg concentrations. Its use is medically approved and is known to treat the genital sores and prevent their recurrence. When used in accordance with safe sex practices, the transmittance of this horrible disease is prevented efficiently. They also do carry similar side effects as seen in the prescribed versions of the same drug. These may include constipation, abdominal pain, and appearance of rash, weakness, giddiness, edema, vertigo, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
