2 people are tasked with each lifting 40 bundles of shingles up to the roof of a house. The roof is 10 meters high and each bundle has a mass of 40 kg.
What work do each of you do in lifting the shingles? — Force * Distance = 400
You out perform the other worker b ycompleting the lifting job in 2 hours and 20 minutes faster than your co-worker. What is the average power expended by each worker?

The work is m*g*h = 40kg*9.8m/s^2*10m = 3920J
The P = W/t
You gave the difference in time but not the time of the co-worker
Just divide the work by the time to obtain the avg power

What is the best way to tear shingles from a very steep roof?
I’m getting ready to start a roofing job with an extremely steep roof. I know you can use roof jacks to put shingles on, but what do you use to tear off the scrap?

The roofing shovel is best I bought mine at Home Depot it has a serrated edge that grabs the roofing nails really well and rips them out also.
I must stress the need for safety on steep roofs you should be attached to the peak with a regulation harness and arresting strap.
You will not save any money on a DIY job if you end up in the hospital.

When is it time to replace shingles on my roof?
We’ve had several hailstorms recently. When I look at the shingles on my roof, I see spots where the little grainy stuff has washed away. How do I know when it is time to replace my shingles?

Couple ways
1. If your roof is over 20 years old, its coming due for replacement. Average composition roof last 20-30 years if properly maintainanced
2. If your shingles are starting to curl
3. Leaks or sags
4. Missing shingles and exposed nails
5. Sealant around flashing is starting to crack/strip
6. Variation in color
NOTES:
a. Hail, extreme elements such as areas with heavy pollutants and salts can take toll on roof
b. Maintainance helps, clean gutters, remove fallen limbs, replacing missing shingles asap will prolong your roof
c. If it has more than 2 layers it must be stripped
d. Replacing your roof BEFORE it starts leaking will save you money and fustration
e. The higher pitch roof the longer the roof will last, flat roofs are more prone to leaking
f. Install adequate attic/roof ventilation

What is the best thing for getting rid of shingles?
My Nan is 85 and she has got shingles, she is normally fit and well but with this she has been all down in the dumps and not wanting to do anything! She is only taking ibuprofen and using Calamine Lotion. can anyone suggest anything else? She has had this for 3 weeks now.

Shingles stays dormant in the body and can only be treated by suppressant medication.
Take her to a doctor, perhaps she might be given something to alleviate of the redness on her skin.

Where can I get roofing shingles at a discounted price online?
Most online sites lead you to a contractor who wants to do the work for me. I just need a discount price for the roofing shingles.

Locate your area yellow pages and find blg. Materials see if there arent any salvage stores in your area . If not look at lowes or home depot for a style they are discontiuing and offer them .20 on the dollar for them . Make sure to get extra at both of these places due to the fact they will be discontiued ond you probally wont find them if you run out or need to repair them in the future
