Sandra asks…

Is shingles vaccine Zostavax covered by UnitedHealthCare insurance?

admin answers:

Ugh. I’ve got UnitedHealthCare, too. Really crappy insurance, but better’n nothing. Should be just a co-pay, I think.

Ken asks…

Is the shingles vaccine a one time shot or must you have one each year to be protected?

Also will the shingles shot make your arm as sore as the phemonia shot ?

admin answers:

The shingles, or zoster vaccine is currently recommended as a one-time dose. It is now approved for people aged 50 years and older.

William asks…

Is there a waiting period between getting the shingles vaccine and having facial laser treatments?

admin answers:

I strongly suggest that you ask the experts, the doctor who gave you the shingles vaccine and the doctor who will do the facial laser treatments. Good luck, I hope it all turns out well for you.

Sharon asks…

Would it be safe to have a Shingles vaccine the day after a TB inoculation?

admin answers:

BCG and the shingles vaccines are both live vaccines. Live vaccines should be separated by at least 28 days if not given on the same day.
If you are talking about a TB skin test, you can get a live vaccine on the same day of testing, but in someone who has already had the test placed, it is best to get it after the test is read and all testing is complete (i.e. Not getting a two-step TB test). Once you have a live vaccine, you cannot get a TB skin test placed for 28 days. I prefer not to give live vaccines on the day the TB skin test is placed as they have to come back anyway for the reading and the vaccine can be given then. When a two-step test is done, the person waits until the second test is read.
