Which of the following 3 contagious diseases is the worst?
1.) Strep throat
2.) MRSA
3.) Swine Flu

admin answers:
Hey Parting,
MRSA is without a doubt the worst. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a bacterial infection that is highly resistant to some antibiotics.
MRSA infections are grouped into two types:
•Healthcare-associated MRSA (HA-MRSA) infections occur in people who are or have recently been in the hospital. Those who have been hospitalized or had surgery within the past year are at increased risk. MRSA bacteria are responsible for a large percentage of hospital-acquired staph infections.
•Community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA) infections are ones that occur in otherwise healthy people who have not recently been in the hospital. The infections have occurred among athletes who share equipment or personal items (such as towels or razors) and children in daycare facilities. Members of the military and those who get tattoos are also at risk. The number of CA-MRSA cases is increasing.
Strep throat is caused by Group A Streptococcus bacteria and is usually very susceptible to antibiotics, making it fairly easy to cure.
And swine flu, or H1N1, is a strain of Type A Influenza, and is self limiting, meaning it’s no fun to have, but it is usually taken care of by the body’s immune system, and usually only lasts a few days to a week.
I work in a hospital lab and I’ve seen people lose limbs to MRSA. It’s nasty stuff!
Hope this helps

James asks…
Where is the safest place on earth that keeps us away from diseases, earthquakes, wars, robberies etc?
Nowadays there are many disasters around us, such us wars, contagious lethal diseases, earthquakes, floods & tsunamies, volcano eruptions, robberies, murders etc. Is there any place that can make human being survive even from the worst condition on earth?

admin answers:
Most storms (other than tornadoes) take the highest toll on coastal areas – Coast is out
Tornadoes affect flatter areas – Plains are out
Extreme Heat and Extreme Cold have their own issues – Poles and Equatorial Areas are out
You would want to be in the middle of a tectonic plate to avoid earthquakes
You would want to be in an area as close to cut off as possible from general society to minimize spreading illnesses
You would want to be in an area as close to unpopulated as possible to minimize social issues (robbery, murder)
So you would want to be in the slightly mountainous area in the middle of the continent in a mild climate by yourself and cut off from human contact.
Sounds like a great way to live!

Susan asks…
Am I being rude by not letting my kids around neighbor kids that have a multitude of contagious diseases?
For months before today, my kids have been playing with neighbor kids that seem to be always sick and every time I do let them them play about 2 days later me or my kids get sick( Fever, sore throat and stomachache.) Until now when I put 2 and 2 together, I have considered it a coincidence but now I’m becoming very nervous about this. One of these visits caused my son to be in the hospital for an unknown high fever for 3 days. Also after I visited their house alone, I had a terrible persisitent fever without a cause as well. Recently, after we started avoiding them, they came over uninvited and told us that they are all mrsa carriers and thier kids just were diagnosed with worms. This freaked me out and I immediately called the pediatrician for advice. They couldn’t say much because of privacy reasons but they said it would be really important for me to find out which worm they have for precautionary reasons. I then called the parents to ask them but they refused to tell me and said they got it from school (hard to believe.) Now to avoid them. I have been making up excuses why my kids cannot play(sick, going somewhere, etc.) Now the mother is bringing over homemade cookies, and cupcakes to try to be social again and just the day before yesterday, I told her how I felt about getting sick and she was okay with it. However yesterday, she brought them over unexpected again and I got mad and told them to stay away until they are done with their worm medicine(Only 2 out of 3 kids are being treated by the way.) Subsequently, the mom got mad and said I’m overreacting and that the kids aren’t contagious so let them play. I can’t though, it turns my stomach just thinking about letting them over at this point and probably will for a long time.
The really bad thing is that they live next door (in very bad conditions) and their kids watch my kids play outside everyday so I constantly have to tell my kids to stay in to avoid them. This situation is driving me crazy and don’t entirely know if I’m just being germaphobic. Any ideas or comments on this would be helpful.
Thank you
Funny thing is they’ve only been around for 6 months. We’ve been here forever even I’ve grown up on this land so moving isn’t an option.

I get the impression you’re being a bit too cautious with your children when it comes to typical germs. Kids spend 9 months in schools surrounded by dozens and dozens of kids on a consistent basis. There is a high probability they’re going to be forced into a situation where someone in the room is contagious. All you can do is promote a better immune system in your children by giving them the proper vitamins. I do agree you’re taking the right steps on the worms incident. Certain kinds of forms can be highly contagious and your neighbors should have the responsibility and etiquette to keep the children away until the worms have been remedied. Don’t point the finger at yourself on this issue. You’re just trying to keep your children healthy, and as a parent you absolutely have the right to keep your kids at a distance until you feel they can play without the stress of getting worms.
Edit: Oh.. You have the right to know what type of worms it is. That’s irresponsible and disrespectful of them.
