Steven asks…
Is herpes zoster contagious?

admin answers:
Only to people who have never had chicken pox.
Herpes zoster is a reactivation of chicken pox, which is a herpes virus and stays in your body for life. When it reactivates it is known as shingles.
Herpes zoster is only infectious from the affected skin, through skin to skin contact. But if a child who has never had chicken pox comes inot contact with herpes zoster lesions, they can catch chicken pox. A person who has already had chicken pox is not affected.
If you were to catch the virus from a person with herpes zoster, you would not develop shingles yourself, you would develop the more severe symptoms of chicken pox.

William asks…
is HERPES ZOSTER contagious?
pls explain

admin answers:
The virus that causes zoster can be passed on to others, but they will develop chicken pox, not zoster and only if they have not had chicken pox. Zoster is much less contagious than chicken pox. Persons with zoster can only transmit the virus if blisters are broken and someone who never has had chicken pox or who already is ill is close by. Newborns or those who already are ill or immunosuppressed, such as cancer patients, are at the highest risk. Because of the risk of contagion for these people, these patients with zoster are rarely hospitalized unless absolutely necessary.

Laura asks…
Who can tell me more about Herpes Zoster? Its very cause. And if it is contagious. Thanks.?
Mine is on my palms and on the soles of my feet. Bet this is unusual. But yeah the doc said they might be where my immune system are weak……..?

admin answers:
It’s caused by a virus and it is contagious but I don’t believe it can be transmitted as an airborne virus. The virus is closely related to chicken pox believe it or not. You can be affected by the virus if your immune system is down. Not eating right, not enough sleep stress or weakened by some other cause. It causes a VERY painful skin eruption in the area of your rib cage, waist, or up to your arm pit. I mean….it hurts. Open sores, oozy….very pleasant.

Sandra asks…
My son contracted herpes zoster 2 weeks ago. I now have it. I have had chicken pox. Is this possible?
I heard that if you have had chicken pox you cannot get shingles as an adult from someone else. So, am I contagious? Will the members of my family get it even though they have had chicken pox?

admin answers:
Nope… Its the other way around. If you have had the chicken pox’s you are more likely to get shingles. And you can get it several times. Unlike the chicken pox which can only be had once. Hope you feel better soon
