Your Questions About Shingles

Donald asks…

Which is the difference between herpes I, II and zoster?… symptoms?

admin answers:

Genital herpes can be caused by either the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1)—which also causes cold sores—or the herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). HSV-2 is the most common cause of genital herpes infection in the United States.

Herpes zoster, commonly known as shingles, is caused by the same virus responsible for chicken pox.

Maria asks…

I think I might have HIV…. I’m having the symptoms, but not sure.?

I HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN TESTED!! I just need a peace of mind until the results…. I have lost a lot of weight which is so uncommon for me, i dropped from 112 to 108 in 2 days. My vagina lips are so sore and tender, and last week i noticed some blood in my panties, when i wasn’t on my period. I have been having little rashes on my body, and also i noticed that I bruise easily. I also have little bumps all over my body (some mosquito like , the others goosebump like). And I also had raised skin show up on my thigh, it came as ridges (not herpes zoster), and then went away after about 10-15 min. Then my mouth has been acting very weird, little bumps on my lips, dry mouth, kind of a sore throat, and had a sore on my tounge. This week I got on my period, I haven’t been sleeping right, not eating right, and stressing A LOT. Ever since I started eating and sleeping right, i”ve been gaining my weight and energy back. Could that combo cause the weight loss??
I had these symptoms (the bumps and mouth problems) back in about aug-sep of last year, and then i got treated for chlaymdia, and then they went away. They recently came back about 2 weeks ago, and it seems to be getting worst daily.

Ok, take a deep breath and relax. You took the best first step and that was to get tested!!! Good for you! Now these “symtoms” are probably not as bad as you think and your mind is probably playing tricks on you because you are scared out of your mind. Not to mention HIV does not have any symtoms, it is the other diseases that someone catches from having a poor immune system from having HIV, that gives them symptoms and not HIV itself. So I am sure you will be ok. I know the waiting game is awful and scary but now you need to think about all the things you did to get into this situation. For example un-protected sex. Please every life is valuable and even if you don’t think you are worth anything, I do! Start to protect yourself better, and expect the unexpected. Meaning don’t wait for ANY man to have a condom, it is the 21st century and woman should be just as open and self aware as a man and they should take the intiative to carry condoms. Not sleeping and eating right can definatley cause the loss in energy and weight. Plus stress can manifest itself into alot of things so as hard as it sounds just take a deep breath and think about your future. On a more serious note: If you do have HIV then your life is NOT over! There are medications and support groups you can turn to. People are living happy and normal lives every day with HIV and they are not embarrased or shy about all the help they get. So please protect yourself and take care. Remeber to breath and be careful in the future, there are too many unfortunate diseases out there for anyone to catch if they are not careful.

Sandra asks…

what could this painful rash under my armpit be?

i have a developing rash under my armpit, at first it felt like a pimple or an ingrown hair in my armpit, but today when i woke up there were now three separate sores/rashes around each other in my left armpit. they are very painful to the touch and it hurts to move my arm around.

strangley enough, my right armpit seems to be contracting the same rash, it is also starting to turn red.

ALSO, my chest seems to be prone to acne now, i never ever got pimples before on my chest or back, but today there was one pimple and 2 lumps near my nipple, and another small
(non painful and non itchy) rash on my right forearm.

i did go to the doctor and he wasn’t exactly sure because i have erratic symptoms, so he is guessing that i have shingles (herpes zoster), but he really wasn’t sure so it makes me uncomfortable.

Can anyone help me?

are you serious with that? cancer? you’re just an idiot if you think that

Laura asks…

what could this be? shingles?

Hi, I just got over a 4 day gastro (or stomach flu), the morning after i started feeling better(yesterday) i started getting a weird sensation in the skin on my back…now today, its a pretty intense burning in the skin.. im wondering is this sounds like zona,(herpes zoster).. or more commonly the shingles. Ive had it twice as a kid already at age 4 and 8.. but its been so long i dont remember the beginning symptoms. Anyone know if it sounds like the shingles?..or something else?
I guess ej didnt read that i wrote.. i already had the shingles.. twice…

admin answers:

You might have either an echovirus or a coxsackie virus rash, which would go along with your gastro symptoms, too.
