12 weeks pregnant just been diagnosed with SHINGLES HELP!!!!?
I went to the doctor today and found out that I have shingles! My doctor told me that this is very contagious and harmful to pregnant women when I asked about my baby he kind of ignored the question. They checked the heart tones and everything was fine I just want to know is my baby in danger because of this virus?
I did keep asking but he just walked out so I don’t know what to think

admin answers:
Shingles is harmless in pregnancy –
While there is a close connection between shingles and chickenpox, there is no evidence to suggest that shingles in pregnancy will lead to any problems with your baby. This is probably because you already have immunity to the virus, and this immunity is passed on to your baby.

Have you already had chicken pox? If so, then you have nothing to worry about. Check out this site: http://mayoclinic.com/health/shingles/DS00098/DSECTION=4
Also, call your doctors office and ask them for a more professionial answer.
Good Luck!

Mark asks…
my mother in law had VIS Shingles ?????
She has or had VIS Shingles, which is call “the chicken pox of old people” the doctor told her that she can not get close to me at all…. this was around 3 weeks ago…. now her doctor says that I am safe to get near her (I haven’t seen her for almost 4 weeks now) Does anyone knows if I am really safe? She is not contagious anymore after 3 weeks???? Please let me know
Another thing: VIS Shingles will only be contagious to people that they have not yet got chicken pox and to pregnant woman.
I am almost 13 weeks pregnant

My husband just got over the shingles. He said if the blisters are gone then it is safe. They have to be dried up. Not even one little blister. Put shingles inyour search and you can learn all about it.

Maria asks…
Should my mother in law come to the birth of my son?
she was diagnosed with shingles about 17 or 18 days ago. she said her doctor told her to stay away from children and pregnant women well me and my sister in law are pregnant. now 18 days later she says that her doctor told her that she is not contagious any more. and she wants to be at the birth of my baby and she is putting herself around me. can anything happen to the baby when he is born from being around her? is it safe for her to come to the hospital and see him? is she really not contagious anymore? i am really not trying to keep my mother in law away i am just concerned. thanks ahead of time for any advice or answers 🙂

The answer to this question, and many others like it, IMO is ‘better safe than sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’
why risk it, you know? That .0000001 percent chance would be enough for me to say no.

Whether shes contagious or not, use it as an excuse to keep her away. I let my mother in law come in the room for the birth of one of my children and every time I see her now, in the back of my mind I know this woman has seen my cooter!
A mom should never see the hole that her son buries his ding dong in every night!!
