Poetry From The Screenporch: Marsh Trapper
In the time of Brown Pelicans, he set traps
in the marshes, round Intracoastal way,
down one lone stream, ending in ‘off limits’.
When the moon shattered into dawn,
he paddled past mossed cypresses’
gold-browns, burnt oranges, straggling
colors still unsure of cold, warm, frost.
Cold sweat stung clothes tight.
Light rain conjured fog
from the water, the earth.
His dog’s barks led home.

In the time of Nutria pups’ birth, when snakes
foraged quicker, found more, and owl chicks flew,
he floated rafts of timber past
the old eagle’s nest.
Driftwood-edged walkway to a door.
Door opening on a shanty, round
Intracoastal way, down a lone stream,
ending in a torn down sign.
Long about twilight you can see him,
dog curled on his feet,
smoking, whittling, on his porch.
Signs shingle his roof,
keeping out the rain.

We have some interesting, obstinate, old-fashioned people down here in Louisiana…..these trappers are ‘mountain men’, in a different locale!

Giggles gave me the idea to write poetry while on the porch, and to write a series….okay!

Are shingles really a sign that I have HIV??? Please help?
I’m a young person (I like to think healthy young person) but recently my doctor prescribed me with shingles. So I looked at some websites and said that it was rare to have it at a young age anyway, and then it said “Shingles also may be an early signal of HIV infection, especially when it occurs in a younger person” is this true?? Does taht mean I’m not healthy?

No it is not a sign. Your body may produce an immune responce to Shingles or in other words, Herpes zoster, that could potentually raise the antibody level that may register on the HIV tests. Why they say shingles might be “sign of HIV” – could be the other way around. Hiv tests dont detect actual virus. Just antibodies.
Please be very careful and get all the information you can. You’re doingthe right thing by researching. Dont stop.

Im am an ex-iv drug user and recently came up with a case of the shingles, can this be an early sign of HIV?
I did heroin and cocaine for two years, Ive now been clean for about 9 months. I recently came up with the shingles and i was wondering if this could be early signs of HIV?? In the past i shared needles numerous times with other Friends. Last time i was tested was probably about 6 months ago. should a be nervious??

Statistically speaking, 14% of all IV drug users are HIV positive, far more than the average population. Given that you have been clean for 9 month (btw, congratulations) but have tested about 6 months ago, means that it was only 3 months since your last exposure. In some cases, it may take up to 6 months to determine whether you are HIV positive or not. To be on the safe side, I would get tested again, since you are now at the 6 month point. What ever those results are, I would trust. Good luck!

i am 62 years old and for the past couple i have had a scalp problem .the first detre. said searbrric dermatitis. the second dr, said folliculitis. i followed all directions from both dr’s now have the same problems–only worse –called nurse at dr. office she said [ shingles– what are the signs and systems of shinkles–can it be just scalp only. what is the treatment– thank you

Shingles follow a nerve, so they will ussually be all in a line or group. They look like a cluster of blisters, and they itch, if you itch them then they burn, they will start to cause alot of pain the longer you have them. If you have had them for a while it is probably to late for antiviral meds, so you will have to let them run their course. It is a virus, (chicken pox) so it will take time to heal, I belive 7-10 days.
