Anyone ever had shingles?
Does anyone know of a good home remedy to relieve the pain of shingles? I read something about finger nail polisher remover and crushed aspirin. Anyone ever tried this or any other home remedy that worked for you or someone you know?

admin answers:
I dont think there’s any effective home remedy at all. My mom had that 5 yrs ago and it was bad. Not much you could do either. I’ve heard of some experimental drug to ease the pain that showed good results. Don’t know if its FDA approved already.
Valtrex / Acyclovir is the first they prescribed.
Good luck.

Shingles questions for those who’ve experienced this…?
I was diagnosed with shingles yesterday after being in agony for weeks. The doctor prescribed an anti-viral med not expecting that to be effective at this point as I already have a spot on my ankle. He also prescribed hydrocodone for the pain. My question is…if anyone has had shingles how long did it last and do they have suggestions for home remedies to alleviate my pain? I’d also be glad to hear how long other people’s bouts with shingles lasted and what I can expect. I am only 40 years old so wasn’t expecting this diagnosis. But as I am a new mother of a 1 year old I have apparently not been getting enough rest and my immune system has probably weakened allowing the chicken pox virus to reactivate. And yes, I did have chicken pox as a child…so that was also surprising to learn I could get the virus again. But I guess it happens according to my doctor.
Thanks for your info — what did he prescribe for ringworm? And did your whole body ache too? If so, for how long?

admin answers:
I was 34 when I had shingles. And it was the same situation – not enough rest and I had also gotten a sunburn on my legs, which weakened my immune system.
The anti-viral meds supposedly don’t help much after 72 hours has passed since your first symptoms.
The pain will last, and some numbness too. I had it on my face and my chin and part of my cheek are still numb almost 18 months later.
But whatever you do, don’t pick at the blisters. Also, I assume your child has been vaccinated against chicken pox? Sometimes a person with shingles can pass along the virus to a youngster who hasn’t yet had chicken pox, but usually only early in their shingles outbreak.

Anyone have PHN ~postherpetic neuralgia? Any Home Remedies??
This in a condition you may get after shingles. My father is suffering from this, and the medication is not easing the pain. Does anyone know of a home remedy for this condition? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

admin answers:
Anecdotal testimonies from patients have suggested that smoking marijuana relieves the pain in much the same way as it relieves the pain of multiple sclerosis.
What you read above is what came in wikipedia :

What is shingles? Is it contagious?
My wife came home from work and told me a co-worker has shingles!! We are both wondering what this is. The co-worker complained of her skin feeling like it was on fire!! Please tell me there is a remedy for this, and what would it be other than cold compresses. My wife told me that her friend stated the pain as almost UNBEARABLE, and was crying.
Thank you for any suggestions

My mom had it last year for about 2 months. It’s actually a form of herpes and has to do with chicken pox, as crazy as that sounds. It’s either the chicken pox virus still remaining in a person’s body, or if a person never had chicken pox they get shingles instead later on in life. My mom thinks she probably caught it from a child while she was in the clinic waiting for a regular doctor’s appointment. But my mom is diabetic and her immune system is weaker than normal.
It affects the nerve endings is why it’s so painful. My mom’s friend had it in her eye on on her scalp. Talk about ouch. My mom took vicodin for her pain.
It is contagious if you touch the open sores on a person’s body that are the actual shingles. I did touch my mom’s sores but they weren’t open, yippee. That was close. I didn’t know anything about shingles until she came down with it.
It’s treated almost the same way herpes is treated – valtrex. Only shingles goes away. Of course, herpes doesn’t.
If this is your wife’s co-worker, I don’t think she’ll come down with it. She won’t be touching this person’s sores.

I just got diagnosed with shingles.?
i’ve already had the chicken pox. im 20 years old & was wondering if itll be milder than if i hadnt had the chicken pox. the rash just came about 2 days ago & im on valtrex. for pain im just talking advil. what other remedies can i do? i still havent had any blisters. im worried about it. will it last the 4-5 weeks people say it will even though ive started medication? will it spread? as you can tell im pretty scared 🙁
dont the blisters come after the rash? or can you “skip” them if i started medication already.

admin answers:
Take a vitamin with high levels of vitamin C and Zinc. This will help rev up your immune system. Btw, you’re lucky for not developing any blisters cuz they’re really itchy and painful. I hope that you feel better soon.
