Valtrex and its possible side-effects while treating viral infections.

Valtrex and its possible side-effects while treating viral infections.

Article by John Green

Generic ValtrexValtrex (valacyclovir hydrochloride salt of L-valyl ester of drug acyclovir) is available for oral consumption and each palette contains 1gm of valacyclovir along with other inactive ingredients. Valtrex [generic Valtrex] is an anti-viral drug used in the treatment of genital herpes. It helps our body fight the spread and development of the infection caused by the herpes virus. The herpes virus causes genital herpes, cold sores, shingles and chicken pox. Valtrex does not cure herpes, nor does it prevent the transfer of the disease (contagiousness) while taking the medication. Valtrex generally acts as a regulator for regulating the intensity and severity of the illness. You can either buy Valtrex at a local pharmacy near you or order Valtrex online.

Valtrex General InformationValtrex is to be taken by people with a normal immune system. Valtrex helps reduce the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that our body can fight the infection. Unlike bacterial antibiotics, antiviral drugs are very narrow in the scale of treatments to infections, and are not always a cure but are mostly just regulators.

Treatments Using ValtrexOral herpes is a disease in which the mouth and face get infected and blisters erupt on the face, which are called cold sores or fever blisters. This is the most common type of the infection by the herpes virus.

Genital herpes cannot be cured and is transmitted through sexual contact. The symptoms of genital herpes are blisters and ulcers around the genitals. Medication can only help reduce the visibility of the symptoms during a break out and help reduce the break outs. Genital herpes is spread very easily by skin contact. In women the symptoms may not even be visible to her partner. Genital herpes is contagious even while taking the medication for treatment and reduction of the visibility of the symptoms. The virus is passed on from mother to baby during childbirth if the mother is infected.

The symptoms of herpes last a couple of weeks and they become visible within 2 days to 3 weeks. The first symptom is usually mild and not noticeable. Herpes can be detected by medical tests. A doctor will take a swab test of the infected tissue and determine if the individual has the herpes virus infection.

Shingles is a condition in which the skin develops a rash and is very painful. Individuals who have suffered from chicken pox usually retain the virus and in event of a weakening of the immune system later in life, the virus gets reactivated resulting in shingles.

Cold sores occur near the mouth and are generally aggravated by stress, fever, exposure to the sun, hormonal changes, weakening of the immune system and skin being exposed to unfavorable conditions.

Valtex Precautions and WarningsValtrex [generic Valtrex] is prescribed by doctors after looking into the medical history of the person concerned. It is not advisable for patients with weak immune systems, kidney disease, kidney transplant, bone marrow transplant, cancer or allergies to foods, dyes and medications to be treated with Valtrex. People suffering from depression are also not the best candidates for Valtrex.

Valtrex Side EffectsValtrex is tolerated by most people; however some individuals may have some side effects during their treatment using Valtrex. Some of the common side effects caused by intake of Valtrex are:

HeadachesNausaaStomach achesDepressionPainful menstrual crampsDizzinessJoint painsBileVomitingSkin rashLow blood count

An alarming condition called Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) is one of the side effects seen in a few people who have been treated with Valtrex [generic Valtrex].TTP lowers the blood count and causes a lot of small blood clots. This condition (TTP) is observed in patients who have been infected with HIV or have had kidney transplants or stem cells transplants and are taking Valtrex. Consult a health practitioner about any medical condition you may be having and the side effects you may go through during your treatment with Valtrex.

All drugs go through clinical study and their side effects are determined, yet tests have not shown whether sexual side effects are caused due to the usage of Valtrex [generic Valtrex] itself.

Valtrex NotesIt is also important to inform your practitioner if you are planning a baby or breast feeding before taking treatment. Valtrex [generic Valtrex] is a Category B medication, so it is probably safe to take during pregnancy. Normal doses of Valtrex can be harmful to people suffering from kidney disorders. Some side effects of Valtrex with patients suffering from kidney disorders are seizures, hallucinations, confusion and other nervous system mishaps. Geriatric patients have a higher risk of side effects of Valtrex.

Valtrex How to Use

Your doctor will prescribe a Valtrex [generic Valtrex] dosage based on your age, weight, medical condition that you need to be treated for, medical history and on what medications you are already taking.

The recommended dose of Valtrex is Valtrex 1000mg per day to be taken 3 times for 7 days by people suffering from shingles. Valtrex [generic Valtrex] is an oral medication.

The recommended dose for people suffering from cold sores is 2 grams twice a day for one day. There should be a 12 hour gap between doses.

The initial recommended dose for herpes treatment is Valtrex 1000mg taken twice a day for 10 days.

Your Questions About Shingles

Jenny asks…

can you get shingles from someone who has it,i have a low immune system and my daughter has them?

how can i prevent from getting shingles if it is contagious cause my daughter has it and i have a low immune system, what should i do to prevent getting them being around her and can her children catch them?thank you

admin answers:

The best way to prevent shingles is to always wear gloves when you are touching your daughter or anything that has or could have touched her skin. You can catch shingles if you have a low immune system. The best way to prevent yourself from catching them is good hand washing an.d gloves. Shingles is extremely painful and your best bet is to see the doctor right away if you think you have caught it

Linda asks…

Shingles help?!?! please?

My bf was diagnosed with shingles 2 weeks ago. He had loads of lil red spots on his back, they have pretty much cleared up now.. but now he has some lil red AND yellow spots on his head, the doc said there normal spots but he doesnt agree, they have nearly cleared up too. But the problem is, is were both supposed to be going to a party tomorrow and my family are expecting us both there, theres going to be lots of children and he thinks its dangerous for him to go? He reckons its highly contagious and doesnt want the children or the any adults catching it.. is it THAT contagious?? thanks

admin answers:

Shingles is NOT contagious… It is a flare up from the same virus that causes chicken pox… It probably has been laying dormant in him and has decided to flare for some reason. It affects the nerve endings. It can be VERY painful… But tell him don’t worry he can’t spread it. Just don’t drink alcohol or eat any acidy or spicy foods, they can cause it to flare again…

Lisa asks…

How contagious are chicken pox?

My son has chicken pox, my grandmother is coming to visit and I am afraid that she can become ill if she is around my son. She has already been vaccinated and has had chicken pox as a child, but she is diabetic so her immune system doesn’t help out too much. Should I tell her to wait until he is cured? Is it possible for her to get Shingles even knowing she has already had chicken pox?

admin answers:

I would play safe… However people often get this wrong. You cannot catch shingles form someone who has chickenpox!! When it happens it is just coincidence. However if your grandmother’s immune system is compromised it is best to play safe. She can however come down with shingles at any time; the virus from chickenpox lays dormant and reappears as shingles, usually at times of stress or ill health.

Sandy asks…

Do I have shingles ?

I woke up this morning with this rash on my ckeek bone by right eye. It’s raised bumps sort of skin colored about 2cm diameter surrounded by red rash. I went to the pharamacy and he said it was probably shingles. It itchy and sore as in i am very aware it’s there.

I’m 36 and had shingles in my early 20’s across my abdomen.
(&chicken pox as a child)

About a week ago I noticed some red spots on my upper thigh that were very small and all the same size and followed in a perfect arch, which then continued up to my waist. They are still there but fading. Is this part of it ?

I’ve got photos (photobucket) but don’t know how to add them here.

Are shingles on the skin contagious ?

Please help as there are kids around and I don’t wat to infect them.

admin answers:

Shingles usually only appears on one part of your body – it does not show is in two separate places so my guess would be that one of them might not be shingles. There needs to be little blisters filled with clear, yellowish fluid on top of the rash in order for this to be shingles, otherwise, you will have to get a doctor to identify your rash and treat it with the appropriate ointments. Shingles is extremely painful, needing narcotic pain medication usually to treat the discomfort and an anti-viral medication to speed the healing process. Shingles can take up to a month to go away. Hope this helps and yes, shingles can be contagious but other rashes can be also (impetigo).

Maria asks…

Chicken Pox and Shingles?

Just found out my Dad has Shingles. My son (16 years old and had vaccine at 6) and myself (49 years old and had chicken pox as a child) both have itchy spots (I have about 12 and he has 4 or so). Are we just getting a mild case. Is it likely to get worse? Are we contagious?
My main concern is that we are flying in a few days and don’t want to endanger anyone. Since we both had enough immunity to make our cases mild – how long are we contagious?

admin answers:

You are contagious as long as you have pus inside the pox. When they are dry, you are not contagious.

Silver

Silver

Article by Nicholas Halley

Brief History of The Health Support Uses of SilverFor thousands of years silver has been used as a healing agent by civilizations throughout the world. Its medical, preservative and restorative powers can be traced as far back as the ancient Greek and Roman Empires. Long before the development of modern pharmaceuticals, silver was employed as a germicide.

Consider these interesting facts:

•The Greeks used silver vessels to keep water and other liquids fresh. The writings of Herodotus, the Greek philosopher and historian, date the use of silver to before the birth of Christ. •The Roman Empire stored wine in silver urns to prevent spoilage. •The use of silver is mentioned in ancient Egyptian writings. •In the Middle Ages, silverware protected the wealthy from the full brunt of the plague. •Before the advent of modern germicides and antibiotics, it was known that disease-causing pathogens could not survive in the presence of silver. Consequently, silver was used in dishware, drinking vessels and eating utensils. •In particular, the wealthy stored and ate their food from silver vessels to keep bacteria from growing. •The Chinese emperors and their courts ate with silver chopsticks. •The Druids have left evidence of their use of silver. •Settlers in the Australian outback suspend silverware in their water tanks to retard spoilage. •Pioneers trekking across the American West found that if they placed silver or copper coins in their casks of drinking water, it kept the water safe from bacteria, algae, etc. •All along the frontier, silver dollars were put in milk to keep it fresh. Some of us remember our grandparents doing the same. •Silver leaf was used to combat infection in wounds sustained by troops during World War I. •Prior to the introduction of antibiotics, Colloidal Silver was used widely in hospitals and has been known as a bactericide for at least 1200 years. •In the early 1800s, doctors used silver sutures in surgical wounds with very successful results. •In Ayurvedic medicine, silver is used in small amounts as a tonic, elixir or rejuvenative agent for patients debilitated by age or disease.Silver Re-DiscoveredNot until the late 1800’s did western scientists re-discover what had been known for thousands of years – that silver is a powerful germ fighter. Medicinal silver compounds were then developed and silver became commonly used as a medicine. By the early part of the 1900s, the use of silver was becoming widespread. By 1940 there were approximately four dozen different silver compounds on the market.

Although there were a few flare-ups of negative publicity regarding medicinal silver in the early 1900s, (due to the overuse of certain types of protein-bound silver compounds causing a discoloration of the skin called argyria and due to a supply of improperly prepared and unstable silver) reputable medical journal reports demonstrated that a properly prepared colloidal dispersion of silver was completely suitable with no adverse side effects. T. H. Anderson Wells reported in the Lancet (February 16th, 1918) that a preparation of colloidal silver was “used intravenously. . . without any irritation of the kidneys and with no pigmentation of the skin. ”

New knowledge of body chemistry gave rise to the enormous array of applications for colloidal disinfectants and medicines and for on-going research into the capabilities and possibilities for silver colloids. However, Silver’s “new-found” fame as a superior infection-fighting agent was short lived.

How Silver Lost FavorDuring the 1930s, synthetically manufactured drugs began to make their appearance and the profits, together with the simplicities of manufacturing this new source of treatment, became a powerful force in the marketplace. There was much excitement over the new ‘wonder drugs’ and at that time, no antibiotic-resistant strains of disease organisms had surfaced. Silver quickly lost its status to modern antibiotics.

On-going Uses of Colloidal SilverThe use of some silver preparations in mainstream medicine survived. Among them are the use of dilute silver nitrate in newborn babies’ eyes to protect from infection and the use of “Silvadine,” a silver based salve, in virtually every burn ward in America to kill infection. A new silver based bandage has recently been approved by the FDA and licensed for sale. Other uses that did not lose favor include:

•Silver water purification filters and tablets are manufactured in Switzerland and used by many national and international airlines to prevent growth of algae and bacteria.

•Electrical ionization units that impregnate the water with silver and copper ions are used to sanitize pool water without the harsh effects of chlorine.

•The former Soviet Union used silver to sterilize recycled water on their space vehicles.

•The Swiss use silver filters in homes and offices.

•Some U.S. municipalities use silver in treatment of sewage.

•In the Japanese work place, silver is a popular agent in the fight against airborne toxins as well other industrial poisons.

•Silver-infused bandages and wound dressings are now commercially available.

•Silver has been found to prevent the infection resulting from burns. But for the most part, with the discovery of pharmaceutical antibiotics, interest in silver as an anti-microbial agent declined almost to the point of extinction.

The Resurgence of Silver in MedicineThe return of silver to conventional medicine began in the 1970s. The late Dr. Carl Moyer, chairman of Washington University’s Department of Surgery, received a grant to develop better methods of treatment for burn victims. Dr. Margraf, as the chief biochemist, worked with Dr. Moyer and other surgeons to find an antiseptic strong enough, yet safe to use over large areas of the body. Dr. Margraf investigated 22 antiseptic compounds and found drawbacks in all of them.

Reviewing earlier medical literature, Dr. Margraf found continual references to the use of silver. However, since concentrated silver nitrate is both corrosive and painful, he diluted the silver to a .5 percent solution and found that it killed invasive burn bacteria and permitted wounds to heal. Importantly, resistant strains did not appear. But, silver nitrate was far from ideal. So research continued for more suitable silver preparations.

Silver sulphadiazine (Silvadene, Marion Laboratories) is now used in 70 percent of burn centers in America. Discovered by Dr. Charles Fox of Columbia University, sulphadiazine has also been successful in treating cholera, malaria and syphilis. It also stops the herpes virus, which is responsible for cold sores, shingles and worse.

The history and uses of colloidal silver are well known and documented. They can be researched easily on the Internet through search engines and any colloid forum, bulletin boards or blogs. We cannot link to them or publish them here because Federal Law prohibits any claims or testimonials associating our products or product ingredients with any disease states. Keep in mind that the particle surface area of our colloidal silver product, MesoSilver, is the highest ever tested. This means it is the most effective of any colloidal silver product ever made. With not a single serious adverse event ever reported, it is also one of the safest supplements on the market todaywww.nghalley.alivemax.com

Treating Genital Herpes

Treating Genital Herpes

Before you finally decide to treat genital herpes, it is a good idea to know more about this contagious disease or infection. Treating genital herpes should not be done without proper medical consultation first. Seeking professional medical help is a must especially for the first time patients especially if you plan to use the available medicines or drugs sold in the market.

The herpes virus has two strains and the type 2 virus is the one responsible for the genital herpes outbreaks. The symptoms of genital herpes are minimal. If you try to take a closer look at your genitals and the anal region, you will see blisters on the area. Since the herpes is located in a very sensitive area, some individuals don’t report it or they prefer not to seek medical help. By doing so, they are compromising the health of their sexual partner. Even if the herpes virus is dormant, you can still transmit it to your sexual partner. By taking proper treatment, you can prevent future herpes outbreaks or you can shorten the duration of such outbreaks.

There are various treatment options for genital herpes. You can use the medicine and drugs prescribed by doctors or you can opt for the natural treatments like herbs.

Acyclovir

Acyclovir is a drug which treats genital herpes. This is considered an anti viral medicine which can be used not only for genital herpes but also for treating cold sores, chicken pox, and shingles.

You must be aware that acyclovir can’t cure genital herpes because its main function is to prevent outbreaks or if the person is already suffering from herpes outbreaks, the drug can promote the healing process as soon as it is taken.

The DNA cells need certain enzymes for replication and so the herpes virus also needs such enzymes. Acyclovir acts by inhibiting such enzymes thereby stopping growth of the herpes virus. The body has a defense system which combats the herpes virus but with the aid of acyclovir, the multiplication of the virus is stopped more quickly.

Acyclovir also works by stopping the appearance of sores and rash associated with the virus. Once you take acyclovir, you must finish it according to the instructions even if the symptoms are no longer present.

At present, acyclovir is one of the best medicines to treat genital herpes, chicken pox, shingles, and cold sores. There are also other drugs that you can use like Famvir. When taking drugs like Acyclovir and Famvir, you need to be supervised by a licensed and qualified doctor. You can also talk to your doctor about alternative medicines like herbs. Some useful herbs are thyme, lemon balm, and green/white tea.

You can’t just take Acyclovir without proper medical consultation. You must provide the doctor with all the medical details. Pregnant women suffering from genital herpes can’t take the drug because it may have some effects to the unborn baby. Breastfeeding mothers are also not encouraged to take the drug without proper medical consultation.

Infections in the genital area show various symptoms and in the case of genital herpes, there is abnormal discharge, thick, profuse, colored, frothy blood. Itching and irritation is also present. When you experience these things, you should consult your doctor right away. Treating genital herpes can be done effectively if the doctor guides you in the treatment process.

Solving Herpes

Solving Herpes

Article by Phil Bate, PhD

Solving Herpes Herpes is a viral disease that “hides” mostly in fatty tissue that surrounds nerve cells and pathways. There are three classified types of herpes, although the first two below are the same virus found in different places. Herpes Simplex 1: This is the most common, and it usually occurs on or around the lips, but it can occur anywhere on the body. It is often transmitted to other persons via kissing. Herpes Simplex 2: This is actually the same virus as #1 above, but is found generally on the genital regions, and is usually transmitted by sexual contact. Herpes Zoster: Also known as “Shingles”, this can be the most painful of all. It is thought to be a “left-over” from chicken pox that lies dormant (or can) for many years and suddenly appears. All of these forms are generated to a large extent by stress as a major factor. However, there are several other factors involved. It’s important to understand these to prevent outbreaks. The first two forms of Herpes Simplex require a certain balance of two amino acids to reproduce. These are Argenine and Lysine. If, and when, the Argenine level gets high, and the Lysine level gets low, Herpes comes out to play (reproduce). That’s when you first notice an itch that becomes a small reddened area with one or more very small pimples. Don’t kiss anyone or have sex without a condom (depending on the area of the Herpes outbreak) during this time. Herpes is spread by contact, and is very infectious. There is no cure for herpoid viruses to date. Herpes is estimated to affect 80 million people in America, and about 20% of the US population has genital Herpes So, while we cannot cure it, we do have some control of outbreaks. If we keep the level of Lysine high, the conditions for reproduction are limited. (Another benefit of high Lysine levels is that it seems to help keep the heart healthy). It should be noted that this is not always that simple. Our diet is important. Sugar, chocolate, and nuts are high in Argenine, and many athletes use Argenine as strength building. Herpes is known as the Holiday disease, particularly at Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.I’ve had genital Herpes for 60 years, and have never infected another person to my knowledge. I found out what I’m writing here, and have been careful about sex without a condom whenever I “itch”.In later years, I’ve found that I require more Lysine than I did 40 years ago, when I discovered the Lysine/Argenine balance. I now take 1 pill (1000 mg) of Lysine per day, and still very occasionally get an outbreak. Dealing with an outbreakIn spite of “best intentions”, we humans fail. We overeat those foods that are high in Argenine, and we have stress almost constantly, so we will get outbreaks. There are different remedies available, some prescription, and some over-the-counter (OTC).First take care of the affected skin area. Keep the area dry and clean during outbreaks to help healing. Avoid physical contact with the area from the time of first noticing symptoms (typically tingling, itching, burning) until all sores are completely healed, not just scabbed-over. Until that time, you and your “discards” are highly infectious. The scabs and any other residue that is on your clothes is dangerous, and it’s possible to re-infect yourself and others.Next, treat the outbreak carefully. Valtrex and similar ointments do help to dry up the infection quickly, but I found a simpler and cheaper way years ago. I simply wet an edge of a bar of ordinary soap, (or a drop of liquid soap) and rub it all over and around the affected area, coating it with a layer of soap. I also scratch the area, and break the small pimples before and while doing this. I wash my hands thoroughly after doing this, then let the soapy area dry before putting on clothes. Within a week or so, the tiny scabs are gone and the skin is “normal”.There are some that will disagree with this, but it’s been very effective for me, and many others I’ve advised. It’s cheap and avoids doctors and drugs. Some further advice – Latex condoms reduce your risk of spreading or getting herpes. Wash your hands with soap and water if you touch a sore.If you understand and follow these simple instructions, then Herpes Simplex isn’t that much of a problem.

Aciclovir (Acyclovir) Tablets ? Effective Treatment For The Herpes Virus

Aciclovir (Acyclovir) Tablets ? Effective Treatment For The Herpes Virus

Aciclovir (Acyclovir) is a popular antiviral drug that helps to treat infections caused by the herpes viruses. These infections include genital herpes, shingles, chicken pox and cold sores. Though aciclovir (Acyclovir) does not help to cure the herpes outbreak, the medication helps to prevent the virus from multiplying. This helps to reduce the severity and the duration of the symptoms; as a result the patient recovers faster.

Oral aciclovir tablets are also found effective for preventing herpes simplex infections in patients whose immune systems are suppressed and are unable to fight off infections, either due to diseases such as HIV and AIDS, or because of medical treatments like chemotherapy, steroids or bone marrow transplant.

How Aciclovir works?

Aciclovir works by inhibiting particular enzymes that the virus requires for the replication of DNA in cells. By acting this way, aciclovir denies the virus, its means to multiply. The spread of the virus is therefore curtailed much faster than your body’s natural immunity is able to. A few days into the aciclovir treatment you will notice that the rash and sores associated with Herpes viruses seize up and crust over. It is recommended that even if the symptoms have completely disappeared, you should complete the full course of aciclovir tablets to prevent any further outbreaks from occurring. Treatment period of genital herpes with aciclovir tablets may extend for up to 12 months. To get the most effective results from this medication, aciclovir treatment should be started as soon as your symptoms begin to appear.

Available dosages of Aciclovir tablets

Aciclovir tablets are available in 3 different dosage strengths of 200mg, 400mg and 800mg tablets. Depending on the severity of your infection your doctor may recommend aciclovir tablets 2 to 5 times a day for up to 12 days, as soon as your symptoms become apparent. In case, you are taking aciclovir tablets for the prevention of the herpes outbreak you may have to take the medication about 2 to 5 times a day for up to 12 months.

Aciclovir tablets should be taken orally with a glass of water and may be taken with or without food. However, it is recommended that you take the medication with food as it helps to reduce certain side effects, such as nausea, diarrhea and stomach upsets.

Possible side effects of Aciclovir

Like with any other medicines, there are side effects associated with aciclovir tablets as well. However, most of aciclovir side effects are minor and either requires no treatment or is easily treated by you or your healthcare provider. Some of the commonly reported aciclovir side effects include a general feeling of being ill, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, fatigue, memory loss, leg pain, sore throat and swelling in the hands and the feet.

Some of the rarely reported but serious side effects of acyclovir tablets include aggressiveness or agitation, hallucinations, unusual bruising or bleeding, seizures, unusual decrease in urine production, signs of an allergic reaction (unexplained rash, hives, itching and unexplained swelling).

In case, you experience a serious side effect from acyclovir tablets or if any of the side effects become bothersome please consult your doctor immediately.

Acyclovir tablets are also found effective for preventing herpes simplex infections. Aciclovir tablets is basically a popular antiviral drug to treat genital herpes, shingles, chicken pox and cold sores.

Your Questions About Shingles

Lisa asks…

serratia K.—long term affects on other systems ?

if seratia lowers immune system could that cause repeated outbreaks of shingles in multiple areas of the body?

admin answers:

Yes, shingles is a type of the herpes virus and it will live dormant in your body forever….I am sorry, that sucks. But, because your immune system is low that is why there is repeated outbreaks of shigles. My mother has lupus, (which lowers your immune system) and she has had repeated outbreaks of shingles. I know that they are very painful and my thoughts are with you….good luck!

Should I take my remaining anti-viral medication or should I save it for a more dangerous Shingles Outbreak?

Last time I got a shingles outbreak, it was on my nose and was dangerously close to my eye. I don’t have insurance and it started on a Saturday so I had to spend over THREE HOURS at a “CVS Minuet Clinic” and pay over $100.00 just to get a simple anti-viral prescription refill. I convinced the woman to give me the higher dose so I could cut the pills in half and get a second round out of them.

That was a few months ago and today I got a really large cold sore on my lip. It is hurting and itchy and looks freaking horrible but because it is on my lip, not my nose or forehead, it isn’t DANGEROUS and there is no risk of it causing me to lose an eye.

I’m debating if I should take my remaining medication or if I should hoard it for when I get another dangerous outbreak.

What would you do?

admin answers:

The virus that causes shingles (VZV) is different from the virus that causes cold sores (HSV). It would be very unusual, although not impossible, to develop shingles again. I would use up the medicine for the cold sore.

Maria asks…

Has anyone under the age of 30 had shingles?

I’m only 24 and I’ve had it twice. Outbreaks are usually caused by weakened immune systems but I’m an otherwise healthy girl. Any ideas??

admin answers:

Yes, when I was 26 years old my son had chicken pox and gave them to me. While in the throws of it I began to have EXCRUCIATING pain in my left knee and could not walk. I went to the doctor and she said it was shingles becuase the virus had gotten into the nerves of my leg.

Laura asks…

herpes – My husband had a rash on his leg, diagnosed as shingles. We had sex about two weeks after first appea?

My husband had a rash on his leg, diagnosed as shingles. We had sex about two weeks after first appearance. 2 Days later I have all the symptoms of a primary outbreak of genital herpes and a hospital doctor confirms this via physical examination but no blood tests. Is it possible the herpes I have was contracted through somehow coming into contact with his shingles, either through him scratching the rash then touching my vagina?

My only alternative conclusion is that my husband has been unfaithful to me. He has no symptoms on his genitals.

If the cause is shingles, is the liklihood of recurrance/ prognosis better than if i had contracted HSV-1 or HSV-2 or is it the same?

I am not able to get complete medical advice as we are currently residing in a foreign country.

admin answers:

Shingles are caused by the herpes zooster virus, what also causes chicken pox. It’s slightly different from oral herpes (HSV1) or genital herpes (HSV2). Herpes is HSV not HHV and shingles is not considered to be an std since you can get it by other ways the having sex.
Genital herpes is usually passed through sexual activity like having oral sex with some one that has cold sores (which are caused by oral herpes) or by having intercourse with some one that has genital herpes.
If the doctor only did a visual exam then he may not be able to be 100 percent certain. If you can go back and have a blood test done or get a second opinion.
A lot of men don’t have a lot of or very few symptoms of herpes, some of them don’t have out breaks at all because men tend to have stronger immune systems. It doesn’t mean that he has been unfaithful but he could have contracted some thing from a past partner.
As for it reoccurring, every one that has it is different so it’s hard to predict if it will come back.

George asks…

Eczema/Shingles/Chickenpox Connections?

I had chicken pox when I was 6, and developed shingles on my back when I was 11. When I was 13 I got a random, outbreak of eczema on my arm one day and now have at least 4 small patches of eczema on the palm side of my arm. Could the shingles have caused or contributed to my eczema?

Also could anybody tell me what kind of eczema I might have? I don’t have any food allergies at all but do have a stressful lifestyle/anxiety problems. The patches aren’t extreme, they rarely bleed and if they do its just a pinprick of blood after intensive scratching (which I know I shouldn’t do). They flare up at random times and then recede, only to flare up again at a later time.

admin answers:

The other posters’ sulfur and primrose oil suggestions are good ones.

And no, eczema is not related to chicken pox.

Are you certain you do not have food allergies? You don’t have to break out in hives or go into anaphylactic shock to be allergic to something.

If in fact you don’t have food allergies then it very well can be due to stress. The skin acts like a barometer that shows how healthy the other organs are. If the liver and kidneys aren’t functioning efficiently, the skin can detox the system…which is where the rash comes in.

A good homeopath or acupuncturist should help out a lot. They tend to treat the underlying cause and not just mask the symptoms with a bunch of nasty steroids.

Good luck.
