Peripheral Neuropathy: Symptoms, Causes and Diagnosis

Peripheral Neuropathy: Symptoms, Causes and Diagnosis

Peripheral neuropathy is a condition that occurs when the peripheral nervous system becomes damaged by disease, trauma or toxins.  The condition can result in a person being unable to detect heat, cold and pain.  There is often numbness or tingling in the hands or the feet. If the motor nerves are affected, a person may find that he is particularly weak or even paralyzed in one of his limbs.
Peripheral neuropathy is commonly associated with diabetes, but other diseases are known to cause the condition as well.  Damage to the peripheral nervous system can occur after shingles.  It can also result from vitamin deficiency (particularly vitamin B12), exposure to toxins such as pesticides and lead as well as overuse of alcohol.  (People who contract peripheral neuropathy from any cause can help to treat symptoms of the disease with vitamin therapy and by cutting back on substances that are bad for your circulation and nervous system such as alcohol and cigarettes.)  Peripheral neuropathy is sometimes associated with autoimmune diseases such as lupus, Guillain-Barre syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis as well as genetic disorders such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.  Damage to the peripheral nervous system can occur as a side effect of AIDS or as a side effect of an AIDS treatment.  The same is true for cancer treatment, particularly if a patient is treated with vincristine, metronidazole or isoniazid.  If the cause of peripheral neuropathy cannot be determined, the condition is referred to as idiopathic peripheral neuropathy.
If you are diagnosed with one of the above diseases, speak with your doctor about peripheral neuropathy and how you can prevent the onset of this condition.  Often taking good care of your body is the first step.  Develop a daily health regimen that includes: a healthy diet rich in vitamins, balanced blood glucose levels, exercise, limited alcohol and no smoking.  The goal is to keep your nervous system in tip-top shape and prevent future damage.  If you experience the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy (burning, numbness or tingling in your limbs, etc.) but are NOT diagnosed with any of the above conditions, see your doctor as soon as possible.  The symptoms may be the sign of a complex, systematic problem that requires full-body treatment.
Although there is no medical treatment that can cure peripheral neuropathy, there are therapeutic treatments that can help eliminate painful symptoms.  Speak with your doctor about specific treatments that are right for you.

Your Questions About Shingles

Donald asks…

Can you put a pitch roof on a 14×70 ft mobile home using roof trusses. This one has a slight oval to the top?

I have an old 14×70 ft mobile home with the old style oval top roof to it. I would like to put roof truses on it and finish with shingles. Will the side walls support the added weight of the roof with shingles.

admin answers:

In a word…no. You will have to build a self supporting structure over the roof. Regulations for Mobes prohibit adding to or removing from the structure of a mobe. Additional structures may not be attatched to the home such as decks, carports, canopys etc.

3 weeks into shingles and burning is getting worse?

my 77 year ol dad complained of pain at top of his right leg 3 weeks ago today, the day afte he noticed spots appearing and visited the doctor imediately he was diagnosed as having shingles, doctor said he could give him nothing to help, he has spots all down his leg and up his side, the lower leg appears to be clearing up and is less painful but the burning on his upper leg appears to be getting worse and is now spreading across hi tummy – just wondering if anyone can advise if this is taking the right course or should we be concerned? he is using calamine lotion as advised but nothing is helping this awful burning, he also puts a flannel in the freezer to lay on the burning area – he lives 100 miles away and as my son has’nt yet had chickenpox we cannot visit until he has been given the all clear, so, i ring him everyday for moral support and to keep updated, but I could really do with some advice – anyone had singles who can let me know how it went with you or if you are knowledge

Michael asks…

What supports the bricks of a brick roof dormer?

shingles and siding are light and don’t require support. but some roof dormers have brick walls. how are they supported?
do they rest on the rafters or ceiling joists?

thank you 🙂

admin answers:

A couple of ways you could do it…bring it up through the roof from the attic floor , or lag an angle iron just below the roof line…

Susan asks…

What is the average cost of a second level addition with raising a roof nine feet no dormers.?

I plan on putting a second story addition on to my 1400 square foot rancher. The attic has a a frame roof with shingles, instead of putting dormers in I plan on raising the roof nine feet and putting a new roof on. I know my foundation can support the new addition, I’m just looking for a rough figure on the construction of the exterior (raising it and building a new roof). The attic has hard wood floors and is totally open.

admin answers:

Wish I had the answer, because we are seriously looking at doing the same thing to our meager 1400 sf cottage. I have something like a historic four-square or a modern Craftsman/Prairie in mind. Anxious to see what responses you may get.

Effective Massage Therapy With Aromatherapy

Effective Massage Therapy With Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a unique form of massage therapy because of the oils that are used during a session. The therapist may use one from more than 90 oils to provide psychological and physical benefits to the body.

Most of the oils used for aromatherapy come from natural ingredients. Examples of these include herbs, milk powders, hydrosols, sea salts, sugars, clays and mud. It is frowned upon when some use synthetic ingredients.

It is widely practiced in the US and in Europe and integrated into holistic treatments. Aside from oils, aromatherapy can be using candles and bath salts which allow you to enjoy it in the comforts of your home.

Aromatherapy is used to treat various health conditions. These include allergies, bruises, burns, diarrhea, bronchitis, colds, ear ache, energy, flu, headaches, insomnia, menopause, nervousness, scars, sprains, stress, shingles and wounds.

For home treatment, you can buy these oils off the shelf and then use it whenever you feel like it. These are easy to spot as they are all packaged in small bottles with the name of the oil and the ingredients that are used. If you are not familiar with the oil, you can open it and smell it to see if it is worth buying.

With the oil in your possession, you only have to add 2 to 3 drops like eucalyptus, tea tree or rosemary in hot water. You then hold your head over the bowl and then inhale the fumes. For other problems, you can apply oils to baths and compresses.

Aromatherapy per se is not designed to treat any major illness. It can only relieve minor problems so before you try aromatherapy, it is best to first consult with a doctor.

If you decide to go for a massage, talk with the practitioner about your medical history and current physical condition. Knowing how you feel is the only way for him or her to determine what oil should be used for the session.

Women who are pregnant or nursing should never undergo aromatherapy as the scents from the oils could be harmful to the infant.

For those who want to know more about aromatherapy, they can read it in books or in the Internet. There are also classes that can people of all levels can join so they can learn how to mix the oils together.

The benefits of aromatherapy as mentioned earlier are psychological and physical because the scent simulates the brain to trigger a reaction and at the same time supply therapeutic relief. A good example is eucalyptus oil which is known to ease congestion.

When the oil is applied to the skin, it is absorbed by the bloodstream and aids in certain health, beauty and hygiene conditions.

If you want to learn more about aromatherapy, you can take up classes. Here you will learn how to mix the oils together and create your own concoctions. Most programs will cost a little over 0 and with it, the materials to be used during the sessions.

Aromatherapy is a unique form of massage therapy because you don’t need physical contact all the time to get relief. You can inhale it or bathe in it. It is truly, a holistic form of healthcare that is worth checking out.

Preventing Cold Sores

Preventing Cold Sores

Cold sores are blisters that are generally filled with fluid. These kinds of sores are usually found in or near the mouth area of the individual experiencing cold sores. The sores usually go away after several days but condition can be recurring if not treated because the body’s own immune system can not actually get rid of the oral herpes virus. This virus is also known as herpes simplex virus, type 1. This virus is spread through contact with the immediate vicinity of the cold sores or infected saliva from the person. Active sores which may have a blister like appearance can be considered as the most contagious period of the condition. This does not mean however that you can not get the virus from someone without evidence of cold sores.

Once the individual has had oral herpes, it is highly possible to have them again. The factors that may trigger another outbreak of cold sores are a low immune system, stress, injuries or fevers and many others. In many cases, contact with contaminated objects will not lead to an infection of cold sores.

Preventing Getting Cold Sores

The most obvious way of not getting these kinds of sores is to make sure who you come in contact with has none of these. Kissing a person with cold sores can spread the virus as well as coming in contact with the virus through infected saliva. The prevention of these kinds of sores is better than curing it. Avoid direct contact with anyone’s mouth area if possible. Do not kiss relatives even in the cheeks if you suspect they have cold sores.

Preventing Cold Sores Outbreaks

If you have had oral herpes before, chances of you experiencing another outbreak is high if you are not careful. Preventing another oral herpes outbreak means you have to be meticulous when treating the current bout of the virus. Use individual cotton buds to apply the cream or medication on the sores. Do not reuse the cotton buds by dipping them again and again in the medication from the cold sores.

Other ways of preventing another oral herpes outbreak is to keep up your immune system and avoid getting too stressed. It may also benefit you to use a disposable toothbrush while you have the virus in order not to keep on circulating the virus. Using zinc on the sores can also help to speed up the healing process of the cold sores. It may also help if you avoid exposing your blisters to harsh elements such as the cold, the sun and the wind.

The Many Uses of Tea Tree Oil

The Many Uses of Tea Tree Oil

Article by Sarah Labdar

Tea tree oil has been growing in popularity since the 1970’s, but was discovered for its powerful antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties in the 1920’s. Tea tree oil is an essential oil that is extracted from the tea tree plant also known as Melaleuca Alternifolia. An oil is said to be essential when the extraction bears the scent or essence of the plant. Tea tree oil is clear with a hint of yellow and has a strong, medical scent, due to its chemical compounds terpineol, cineol, pinene, and terpinene. Initially used in aromatherapy and naturopathic medicine, tea tree oil is now being use in all sorts of medical and home applications. The tea tree plant is naturally occurring in Australia and New South Wales. The indigenous people of Australia used it for traditional medicinal practices such as treating the cold, cough, wounds, sore throats and skin problems. This early use of the tea tree and its components is the beginning of the understanding of all the healing qualities that tea tree oil has to offer. Tea tree oil is very beneficial for medical purposes when applied topically, but toxic if ingested internally. If ingested tea tree oil can cause confusion, drowsiness, hallucinations, coma, unsteadiness, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach, and rashes. Therefore tea tree oil is used topically in a diluted saturation or mixed with other oils, herbs, lotions, or creams. If not diluted before use, some skin irritation can occur to people with sensitive skin and a small portion of people have allergic reactions to the oil. Tea tree oil has been known to treat several different types of skin conditions by reducing inflammation, stimulating the immune system and healing wounds. It has a soothing affect on itchy, oily, and burning skin and open wounds. Tea tree oil can also treat several diseases and conditions due to its antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, analgesic and antiseptic characteristics. Some diseases that tea tree oil can alleviate include arthritis, asthma, athletes foot, bladder infections, bronchitis, chicken pox, herpes, cold sores, dermatitis, diabetic gangrene, earaches, earlobe cysts, ear infections, eczema, laryngitis, ulcers, nail fungus, plantar warts, rheumatism, ringworm, sinusitis, and toothaches. In addition some conditions that tea tree oil can cure include acne, bad breath, blisters, boils, inflammation, bruises, burns, dry hair, itchy scalp, oily hair, jock itch, muscle aches, and dandruff. Even though there are traditional medical treatments for most if not all of these diseases or conditions, tea tree oil has been proven comparable if not more effective than these treatments. As an antibacterial, tea tree oil has been found effective against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Topical tea tree oil has been shown to be more effective than conventional antibiotics for preventing transmission of CA-MRSA. As an antifungal, tea tree oil is effective in fighting dermatophytes found on the skin. Additionally if added to shampoo tea tree oil can cure dandruff by treating Malassezia furfur. It also can cure head lice and scabies and is more effective than permethrin and commercial medications. Tea tree oil is also successful at killing Candida the infection that causes yeast overgrowth. As an antiviral tea tree oil has shown success at treating the herpes virus and their cold sores, chicken pox, shingles, blisters and eczema. Tea tree oil has been shown to be equivalent to benzoyl peroxide the most common treatment for acne. Tea tree oil boosts one’s natural immune system and heals wounds by enhancing scar tissue formation. In addition to its topical use on the skin, tea tree oil can be used in alternative medicines such as massage therapy and aromatherapy, as a household cleaner and as a pesticide. In aromatherapy, tea tree oil purifies the air and creates a relaxing and calming atmosphere. Tea tree oil is used topically in massage therapy. It can relax deep layers of tissues and muscles. Tea tree oil can be used in the household as an all-purpose cleaner, but it can also be used in the dishwasher, washing machine, humidifier, and deodorizer. Tea tree oil can enhance mood, memory and energy. As a pesticide tea tree oil can kill blood-sucking insects such as mosquitoes and sand flies on contact. However for other insects it does not act as a repellent but is toxic if they ingest it. There are so many practical and medicinal uses for tea tree oil. It is an all in one first aid remedy that everyone should keep around the house. Whether you use it in a diluted solution or mix if with shampoo, conditioner, lotion or other oils, it can cure and treat almost all of the common and not so common ailments.

Your Questions About Shingles

Lizzie asks…

Any bad experiences from getting the vaccine for SHINGLES or for PNEUMONIA?

My parents both had horrible sessions with Shingles in the 80’s – Mom’s was all in her nether orifices and she suffered for months. Pop was luckier – his was in his scalp, ears and one eye. He was luckier because my sister recognized the symptoms and made sure his eye doctor and medical doctor would look at his lesions quickly after they appeared. All of us children had Chickenpox when we were very young, and, my children also had Chickenpox when they were very young.

I work at an airport where I am exposed to over 500 travelers and 200 airport workers every day. It has been suggested that I get vaccinated for both Influenza and Pneumonia. A friend in Florida recently became infected with Pneumonia when a friend visited him – that same friend died from Pneumonia a short time later.

What can you tell me about your experiences?

My doctor just let me kow that the vaccination for Chickenpox (Shingles later in life) will cost over $300. I live in a remote area.
I meant to say that my parents were both in their 80’s when they were infected – Pop’s infection was in 2006, Mom’s in 2005.

admin answers:

You are wise to get both in your occupation.

Pneumonia is becoming very difficult to treat and more severe cases are being seen.

When I had my pnemo vac. I had a terrible reaction at the site of injection. My Dr. Said to take benedry. Once I did it was over right away.

I have not had a Shingles vac. But I have heard shingles are horrible!! It will certainly cost you more to get rid of either of these illnesses than the $300 vac.

The influenza vac should be taken annually and is cheap.

Thanks for taking care of us at the airport.

Sharon asks…

eye infections?

over the past 3 months or so, everyone has had some type of eye infection. I had shingles in my eye for over 2 months. My 14 yr old had pink eye for just a couple of days ( i got rid of it using antiviral drops). My husband got an eye infection a few days ago that left his eye swollen underneath. I washed his eye out and did the same for him as with my daughter and it is going away. Are these eye infections a symptom of some illness? I had a fever about a week ago for a couple of days. I haven’t gotten a fever in years. My 5 yr old has had a low grade fever as well on and off for a couple of days.

Maria asks…

Do eye viruses have long term affects?

I recently suffered from a virus that caused body aches, high fever (101.3), chills, vomiting, violent headaches, and terrible throat pain. I went to the doctor and she told me it was a virus. The next day I lost all the symptoms except for the violent headaches (that seemed worse) and severe coughing fits. This continued until the next day when I got ear pains, they left the following day but I woke up to find my eyes swollen shut completely. There was heavy discharge from them and they were VERY red. I went to the doctor and she told me it was pink eye, but I was skeptical because I didn’t think it could occur in both eyes simultaneously. She gave me drops telling me they would help. The next day (today) my eyes are no better and we contacted an eye doctor and she said it wasn’t pink eye but a virus in the eyes and that it was extremely contagious and there was no medicine for it- it should heal on its own. I’ve never heard of such a thing before, but I’m worried that there could be long term affects with a having a virus/infection in your eyes (kind of like how after you get the chicken pox, you later stand a high risk of developing shingles). Am I only over reacting, or is it something serious.

admin answers:

Ok, Doctors are SO stubborn and you really need to see a few of them and get their opinions….
You’re like me, you over react and obsess, its horrible to be like that.
But, I suggest like i said talk to a few other doctors. See an allergist too, its very hard to get an appointment…but as you said in the long run, they could check if its allergies…or something, see if its ok. Or an eye doctor of course!!

Donna asks…

Could these symptoms be connected to one disease or am I a hypochondriac?

Off and on severe headaches for 3 1/2 years. Eye pain/pressure in both, but always the severe pain is in the right side/eye. They have now increased over the last 3 months to approx 2 – 3 x a week now. Diagnosed with migraines, tension headaches, and sinusitis. Had MRI 1 month ago and found “multiple” lesions 3 mm up to 1 centimeter in various parts of the brain. Radiologist’s report states it is most likely MS or something like it.

Extreme fatigue off and on much more in last 6 months. Can’t even run for exercise anymore.

The right eye gets very red. Very painful.

Blisters that itch & burn off and on for 15 years. Mostly on joints – wrists, elbows, shoulders, knees. Diagnosed with shingles, dermatitis herpetiformis, and Pseudoporphyria

Blisters in mouth first time 8 – 10 years ago. Happens about 1 – 2 x year now. No diagnosis.

Off and on I have had protein in my urine. First morning urination is so cloudy it is almost white, like milk. Blood tests normal.

High blood pressure.

Positive RA factor. Very slight joint changes.

Positive Hep C. Antibodies only, no viral load ever. Was told I cleared it.

I feel like a hypochondriac because of so many complaints, but symptoms are affecting my life more and more. I used be quite active, running 3 to 5 mile per day, lifting weights, etc…. Now I just don’t feel well enough.
I don’t know how to add an answer to your question, “have i had a lumbar punture yet” Hope this works…. No I am seeing a neurologist in September. Radiologist suggested that on the MRI report.

admin answers:

Did you have a lumbar puncture?

Lisa asks…

What is causing me to feel like I always have something in my eye?

There is nothing there that I can see, and if I rub it, I don’t feel anything moving on my eye. It is only in my left eye.

I have noticed that the normal morning “eye-crusties” have become a white, stringy, almost web-like booger (for lack of a better word). It seems to go the whole length of my eye along the top and bottom of my eyelids. I get these through-out the day, not just while I sleep. Most of the time, it feels as though my eyelids are sticking together when I blink.

I also, feel as though my peripheral vision is somewhat lacking in this eye, compared to the other. But, I’m not sure if that is related, or if I’m just going blind.

Other than being annoying, gross, and uncomfortable, my eye feels dry and looks a little bloodshot (probably from constant rubbing). It also gets irritated more easily than the other eye.

I did the symptom checker on WebMD, (web-like booger wasn’t a choice) and some of the possible choices are glaucoma, shingles, and corneal cancer. I am 25 and doubt highly that any of these are what is driving me nuts. Pinkeye was also a choice, but I’ve had pinkeye before and this is nothing like it.

I have noticed lately, that some of my eyelashes are trying to curl up into my eye and sideways into the tear duct corner. Could it just be wacky eyelashes causing all of this? Or, something serious?

I have always had 20-20 vision, so I don’t have a regular eye doctor. I don’t even know what kind of doctor to see about it.

admin answers:

The lash thing may be your problem.
You may have vernal conjunctivitus.
You may have a bacterial infection.

If you are in the US you can see either an optometrist or an ophthalmologist about this.

Genital Herpes Incubation – How Long Before Herpes Symptoms Show Up?

Genital Herpes Incubation – How Long Before Herpes Symptoms Show Up?

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), which is in the same family of viruses that causes chickenpox, shingles and mononucleosis. There are two types of HSV. HSV 1 infects approximately 80% of the U.S. population and typically manifests on the lips in the form of cold sores. HSV 2 refers to genital herpes and is typically found in the genital area. It is possible to spread HSV 1 to the genital area through oral sex. Likewise, HSV 2 can be transmitted to a person’s mouth or lips through oral sex.

Immediately after the virus is contracted, there is a genital herpes incubation period, which refers to the time between contracting the virus and the first sign of a symptom. This is typically two to twenty days. For some people, symptoms are never visible, so it is hard to identify when the genital herpes incubation period is over. For most people, the first outbreak is the most severe and the most painful. Symptoms typically include sores or lesions, to appear in and around the vaginal area and within the cervix in women, and on the penis and scrotum in men. It is possible to develop lesions in the urinary tract, around the anal opening, and on the buttocks or thighs of both men and women.

Once HSV has infected an individual and during the genital herpes incubation period, the virus travels through the nervous system and settles at the base of the spine. When there are no outbreaks or other symptoms of herpes, the virus is considered dormant. It is common for the virus to later “wake up,” travel the nerve paths to the surface of the skin, and cause another outbreak. Periods of outbreak are typically a highly contagious time and sex should absolutely be avoided.

Another period of increased contagiousness is during shedding. Shedding can occur anytime after the genital herpes incubation period and can be asymptomatic (no symptoms are present and an individual will likely not know they are shedding). During these shedding periods, small amounts of the virus are present on the skin, often at the place of first infection. This reactivation without symptoms may also occur in rectal tissue or in fluids from the penis and vagina. It is believed that people with HSV-2 genital herpes tend to have more shedding than those with HSV-1. Also, people with new infections are more likely to shed the virus than those with an infection more than a year old.

Steroids For Rash Reduction Treatment

Steroids For Rash Reduction Treatment

Article by Jill Cohen

At some time in most people’s lives a rash can develop. These can be caused by many different things such as allergies to certain foods, chemicals or metals, heat, insect bites or reactions to certain medications. People may resort to the use of an over the counter topical cream containing steroids for rashes, if the problem persists for a number of days. These may do the trick and work in most cases, although some people will have to seek medical assistance there is no response.

Certain rashes occur due to infections or illnesses such as shingles, rubella or measles. These will disappear after appropriate medication is taken for the particular condition. Skin problems that occur as a reaction to medications will normally disappear soon after it is changed or discontinued.

Allergic reactions to certain foods may be more difficult to diagnose, as the patient will have to undergo a number of tests to determine which foods they are allergic to. Some rashes associated with the general term eczema can be treated by using both a moisturizer as well as cortisone cream. However, there can be stubborn cases as well as severe ones that do not easily respond.

In many cases, depending on the diagnosis, use of a topical corticosteroid cream is helpful. Butt it is essential to read the instructions on the label, as prolonged use of topical steroids for rashes can cause problems.

There are many products that contain fragrances or dyes, that can irritate the skin or cause allergic reactions, and over the counter corticosteroids can help control the itching, swelling, and redness. Corticosteroids should not be used on a small child without speaking to a physician. The skin is the largest organ in the human body and absorbs everything that is rubbed into it and prolonged use of corticosteroids can cause liver, heart, lung and kidney problems.

Use of oral steroids such as prednisone can actually cause skin problems, including acne on the face, chest and back. With prolonged steroid use, the skin can become thin and bruise easily, while others develop stretch marks and thinning hair, or women may grow facial hair. They are used in certain contexts to treat delayed puberty, certain types of impotence, and body-wasting in AIDS patients. Illegally they are used in the sports world to build muscle.

Steroids should be used with caution, and never for longer than recommended on the label. They can be beneficial in most cases if appropriately used. When stopping the use of oral steroids one needs to taper off them according to the doctor’s instructions.

Types of herpes virus and its infections

Types of herpes virus and its infections

Article by Ian Caspar

Men and women in today’s society have completely changed the definition of sexual relationship. People today are more free and open about their physical relationships with the opposite sex. Many men and women have multiple sexual relationships at one time, or frequently change their sex partner. This pattern of lifestyle has led many of them to contract sexually transmitted infections. Most of these infections are known to affect your genitals and are also known as genital infections. Some of these infections are caused by bacteria, while some are caused by viruses. The sexually transmitted viral infections are such that they cannot be cured completely but can definitely be treated with the help of antiviral medications.

The viral infections seen in most of the men and women are caused by the types of herpes virus, which are herpes simplex virus or the zoster virus. Genital herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections, which is caused by the herpes simplex virus. It is characterized by symptoms such as fluid filled red blisters, red sores and ulcers that appear on or around the genitals, thighs, buttocks and anus. You can contract this infection through unprotected sexual intercourse and by sharing your sex toys with an already infected person. Some of those who contract this infection, usually experience the symptoms with the first four or five days. While most of the infected people experience symptoms after a few weeks, or months, and at times even after a year. Genital herpes is active for a short period of time, and then remain dormant in your body.

Shingles is another of infection that is caused by the herpes zoster virus. The symptoms cover uncomfortable and painful rashes over your body. This virus is the major cause of chicken pox, that children suffer from. Although you treat chicken pox completely, the virus is known to remain dormant in your body, because of which you can be at a risk of developing shingles in your adult life. Shingles as such is not a contagious infection. But if a person has not had chicken pox in their childhood, then they can contract chicken pox if they come in contact with a person who is having active symptoms of shingles.

Another infection caused by the herpes simplex virus is cold sores, which is actually caused by a different strain of the virus than the one that causes genital herpes. The major symptoms of cold sores include fluid filled blisters that appear near your mouth. Cold sores are extremely contagious and you can contract the infection through cold physical contact with the infected area. You can also contract the infection by sharing a toothbrush or a razor that is used by the infected person. This is one of the most widely spreading form of herpes, and is usually prepared by people when they are young. But the symptoms usually develop in their adult life. You can also contract the infection in your adult life and develop symptoms a few weeks later.
