Your Questions About Shingles

Helen asks…

Very Personal Question (graphic, sorry)?

I have some questions, maybe some women can answer. Ive been under a lot of stress lately. Ive been on the pill (microgestin fe 1/20) for over a year now. About six months ago I was very wreckless and had a breif affair with a man.
About a month after, I went to my dr because I thought I had an std but from my symptoms she thought I had a UTI. Symtomps were the entrance to my vagina felt sore, kind of a burning sensation. But this sensation was NOT pronounced when I peed. They did a dipstick test, which was negative.
They said even though it was negative, to take antibiotics (Keflex) because the dipstick isnt always accurate and that many times its negative, but they see bacteria under a microscope. So I took it. I also got a pap test and got checked for chlaymidia and gonnorhreah (misspelled) to ease my fears (came back normal, neg for both).
Upon taking the antibiotics I got my first ever yeast infection. It was hell, all the classic symptoms (so itchy, cottage cheese discharge). Called the dr, she said to go buy monostat. I did, it helped.
About a month ago I developed shingles on my face, and took a course of antivirals (valtrex).
Im not really sure the symptoms ever went away. Its just so mild that with everything going on I can be distracted from it. Its just a very slight stinging/burning sensation on the entrance to my vagina. Its also an ” on and off ” feeling, like sometimes I dont feel it al all. No where else, just the entrance, no itching or anything. No bumps. Some discharge, kind of yellowish. Not a foul odor, but an odor. I can never tell with odors though, not to be sick, but my vagina has smelled all sorts of odors before so im not sure.
What could be going on? I honestly so scared I have an std. Is there any specific one this sounds like? When I first had symptoms, I bought a vagisil ph screening kit, if your ph is over 5 you have tric or bv. But I tested normal. Should I go buy another to take now, or should the first one have been right months ago?
Also if you get a pap, and you have tric, or bv or even a yeast infection and the technichian sees something under the microscope, would they tell you? Or is it an “only checking for this” sort of thing?
Ive always had a nervous/stressed out personality. And sometimes I wonder if I could be imagining it, or like I think it hurts so it hurts. Im just really freaking out, Im one of those people who feel every little thing in their bodies. I know this is a personal subject, thank you to anyone who answer. Only serious anwers, this is a serios question.
It happened too long ago to be herpes. If it were herpes, I would have had an outbreak by now. I know people with herpes and they say an outbreak, ecpecially your first is something you wont miss or mistake for anything else
If your only gonna say ‘ go to your dr ‘ ive been there. Ive involved my dr as much as possible, telling her every symptom

To be honest, it could be herpes. Sometimes you can develop it fast, sometimes it takes a long time. It just doesn’t show up afterwards. That’s why some people do not realize that they have herpes or any diseases for that matter. They do confuse it for something else. A lot of STD’s happen this way.

Pap tests are usually to check for HPV or cancer. Unless you ask them to check down there for any STD’s it’s usually not something they test for.

John asks…

WHATS WRONG WITH MY ARM?

ok so today like 5 hours ago my arm started hurting. i thought it was my tricep but it followed the back of my arm from my arm pit to my mid forearm. i thought i pulled a muscle but it doesnt really feel like that since it follows a trail all the way down.

i hurts wen i move it or touch it and just regularly. it hurts most wen i bend my elbow or whole arm from my shoulder. i thought maybe i hyper extended it but i havent done any physical activities in the past few days…

the pain has just gotten worse and worse since it initially started hurting and i talked to my boyfriend and he sed the same EXACT thing happened to him last year and it was shingles. all the symptoms and feelings are the same- but i already had chicken pox.

what could this be?

ps: the pain is so bad im shaking and tears are streaming down my face– and i never cry about pain

Robert asks…

Does anyone know what this might be?

Hi
About six weeks ago my hubby had a bout of shingles. This was treated for about 5 days and it seemed to go away, although the marks are still faintly there.
About two weeks ago he noticed a small mark under his right eye and a feeling of pressure behind it. It spread to around his right eye and his right temple and down his right hand side of his face to the jaw. Then it spread into his sinus’s and then left temple and then his forehead.
He also has weakness in his left arm and a bit of tingling all over his body. He has been to two doctors, one of them twice. Neither have any answers.
He has done research and has found that some of the symptoms mirror MS but the doctor has said there is not enough to go on but does acknowledge that is is not out of the question but has said to be wary of googling symptoms. He has however referred him to a neurologist later on. In the meantime my hubby is going mental over worrying.
I am not convinced about MS although I am not qualified to know this. I am however wondering if it is a left over from the shingles bout. Has anyone else had weird symptoms like this???
Any feedback would be great.
Thanks.
Thank you so far but as I mentioned we have been to two doctors (one of them twice) and have been referred to a neurologist. So we ARE seeing a professional.

Sandra asks…

Serious question…….please respond intelligently?

I’m waiting on some test results to see if i have herpes. i was misdiagnosed ( i think) 12 years ago, a doctor said i had shingles. recently i was talking to my pcp about my symptoms and he said i might have herpes. i never gave it a thought ’till he said that cause i thought it was shingles all these years. i’ve had two healthy children, and i thought with all the blood tests they do when your pregnant, that they checked for herpes. i was told they only check for that if you think you have it. i’ve had this recurring rash off and on on my butt for years, but a week ago it got worse. so at my obgyn appointment today, he gave me meds and took blood tests for herpes. So now my problem is, my husband is a really wonderful man and we have been married for 5 years. I don’t know how to tell him that i might have herpes and that he needs to get checked. I have been crying all day. my past sins are catching up with me and i’m finding it hard to face them now. any good advice will help, please!
if i do have herpes… how does this affect my children? i have a rash on my butt, but i’ve never had any oral rashes. i’ve kissed my children and shared food with them. can they get sick? they are very healthy children.

admin answers:

First off….Take a deep breath….
It might not be herpes…until the test results come back…your getting all worked up for nothing. I’ve yet to hear of a rash, on your butt being herpes. But then I could be wrong.
IF IT IS herpes…you have to know, that it could have happened years ago, and is just now showing up in your body. Some STDs take along time to manifest. Others do not show symptoms at all.
A great site to look at , and to be able to answer your questions is

Talk to your Dr…and get your results first before saying or doing anything…ok? And if it is herpes..its not a death sentence. Ok??
