My hubby appears to have Shingles…what is the treatment of it?

admin answers:
My husband had this to and it was afully painful for him. There is no treatment for this. It is like a chicken pox it has to run its course. The doctor can prescribe a pain relief medicine to help him deal with the pain.
As the one person said YES it is highly contaigious so you need to keep everything that he is wearing away from your stuff and where ever he lays make sure that you or anyone else doesnt sit there. Everything needs to be washed. It is a terrible thing to have. My husband had it where is wrapped around his chest to his back and he could not wear close for a couple of weeks. You need to make him a doctors appt. As well. Best of luck.

Since it’s caused by the varicella zoster virus, an antiviral would be a good treatment.

Nancy asks…
Can u get a 2nd out break of shingles?
I am almost done with my 7 day treatment of the shingles. My outbreak by my left torsel is almost gone. But just this morning i felt a little itchy in my left ear. Can it be another outbreak?

admin answers:
I’ve had Shingles. Not fun. Started as a sore throat moved to the left side of my face, ear and the left side of the back of my head. I didn’t break out I just had pain and soreness. I’ve been told that it can appear at any time, often with stress or when your immune system is compromised. In it’s worst, it can damage your nerves in such a way that you will always be in pain.
Shingles is caused by the Chicken Pox virus, a Herpes virus. You never get rid if the virus and it resides in the nerves of your body. I believe the reason I haven’t had a flare up again is that I take 1000 mg of L-Lyzen twice a day. Also, because cold sores are caused by a Herpes type virus, I haven’t had any of them either.
A simple way of understanding what L-Lysine does is it blocks what the virus needs to multiply. I get my L-Lysine from a local chain called Fred Meyers but I think Wall Mart carries it too. You can also get it online.
Hope this helps…

Daniel asks…
shingles, cure or treatment? is there a cure?

admin answers:
Hi Digger, a good starting point for treating shingles is a diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables. A good diet and reducing daily stress will help boost your immune system. Eliminate sugar from your diet and add the important nutrients to your daily diet – vitamin E, vitamin B12 and vitamin C.
A simple remedy for lesions is to apply a cool or cold wet washcloth or towel to the affected area. A wet towel can be put into the freezer for a while after wetting it to make it colder. You can use the E capsules they can be squeezed directly onto lesions. Calamine lotion may relieve the pain and help dry the lesions.
But, Shingles is a serious illness and before starting any treatment program you should consult with your doctor. Shingles is the same virus as chicken pox. You cannot catch shingles from someone else unless you’ve never had chicken pox. If you have shingles you should use caution being around pregnant women who have not had chicken pox – you could infect both the woman and her unborn baby. Linda asks…
If some1 has shingles(a form of herpes virus) can this also show up as genital herpes later?
My long time lover has had shingles in the past and knowing that this is a form of the herpes virus(coming originally from chicken pox). If the immune system has been depleted from stress, depression and recent radiation treatment to the testicular area-is it possible to later have what appears to be pimple like substance -the same as what looks like genital herpes?? Confused and in need of help. Thanks.

admin answers:
NO! Absolutely not.
Shigles and chicken pox are cause by a form of herpes virus. There are 8 differnent herpes viruses that affect humans. What they have in common is that they are latent infections that can become active at any time.
It cannot turn into HSV1 or HSV2. It just doesn’t work like that.
